🇲🇽Experiencia en México y la frontera: Ya conoce nuestro país, pues fue Cónsul General en Ciudad Juárez entre 2020 y 2024, donde también trabajó unos años atrás como Jefe de la Sección Consular.

🌎Trayectoria global: Ha llevado la diplomacia por muchas partes del mundo, con asignaciones en Islamabad, Caracas, Bogotá, Santo Domingo y Guayaquil, además de roles en Washington.

📚Su preparación: Además de su experiencia diplomática, Eric tiene una licenciatura en ingeniería de la Universidad de Virginia y una maestría en estrategia de recursos nacionales de la Escuela Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Our Consul General Michelle Ward led a high-level delegation alongside Salina Rico, Border Affairs Officer from the @StateDept (WHA/MEX), and Osmahn Kadri, Asset and NEPA Manager from @GSA. The delegation traveled from Washington, D.C. to oversee the progress of the San Luis I Port of Entry modernization and expansion project. The tour was hosted by @CBPArizona Port Director Chris Leon and the assigned contractor @henselphelps to evaluate this $350+ million project, a transformative infrastructure that will redefine the dynamics of the Sonora-Arizona mega-region. 🇺🇸🇲🇽

What does this project mean for our community?

✅ Shorter wait times: We are doubling northbound privately owned vehicle processing capacity (from 8 to 16 lanes!).
✅ Enhanced security: Implementation of state-of-the-art technology to combat drug trafficking and identify high-risk activities.
✅ Streamlined pedestrian crossings: An increase from 10 to 14 pedestrian inspection lanes.
✅ Cutting-edge infrastructure: New administrative and commercial inspection facilities to strengthen the CBP mission.

In this #Freedom250 year, we continue to build bridges of prosperity. Modernizing our borders not only improves trade flows but ensures a safer and stronger America for everyone.

The boost to our border infrastructure also brings great news for Douglas, Arizona! 🤝

Our Consul General Ward, alongside Washington D.C. officials Salina Rico and Osmahn Kadri, reviewed the progress of the new Commercial Land Port of Entry in Douglas. With an estimated total investment of over $300 million, this modern 80-acre project, scheduled for completion in May 2029, will significantly expand our commercial capacity and allow the processing of oversized mining equipment.

By relocating commercial operations outside of the downtown area, this project will support the revitalization plans for the historic district, transforming Douglas into a 21st-century regional tourism destination.

Gobernador Alfonso Durazo impulsa relación Sonora–Arizona con inicio de obras del nuevo puerto fronterizo en Douglas

Douglas, Arizona; 5 de septiembre de 2025.- Con el inicio de las obras del nuevo Puerto Comercial de Douglas, se concreta un hecho histórico fruto de los trabajos de la Comisión Sonora–Arizona. En sinergia con la gobernadora Katie Hobbs, el gobernador Alfonso Durazo impulsa un proyecto estratégico para agilizar el cruce fronterizo en Agua Prieta y fortalecer el intercambio comercial.

En representación del mandatario, la jefa de la Oficina del Ejecutivo, Paulina Ocaña, participó en la ceremonia junto al senador Mark Kelly, el alcalde de Douglas, José Grijalva, y la directora de Arizona DOT, Jennifer Toth, reafirmando el liderazgo del gobernador Durazo en la agenda fronteriza.

El Douglas West Port of Entry reducirá la saturación actual, modernizará el tránsito comercial y separará el flujo de carga del vehicular y peatonal. Con ello se fortalecerá la seguridad, aumentará la competitividad regional y se abrirán nuevas oportunidades de inversión para ambas naciones.

La jefa de la Oficina del Ejecutivo destacó que Sonora acompañará este esfuerzo con obras en el lado mexicano, principalmente en Agua Prieta, para garantizar la conectividad y consolidar a la región como un centro logístico estratégico del noroeste de México.

Con el respaldo de la presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum, el gobernador Alfonso Durazo reafirma a Sonora como actor central en la relación bilateral con Estados Unidos, generando crecimiento, empleos y bienestar para las familias sonorenses a través de la Comisión Sonora–Arizona.
