Don't worry we covered the cost of the flagrant violation of international law through piracy! The rest of the world? What? Who?

I must confess I am surprised at the reactions against Israel’s treatment of the European protestors. Israel killed tens of thousands of children in Gaza, killed young children with deliberate sniper shots to head, starved babies, shot hundreds of bullets into a 5 year old girl..
Italy threatens to sanction Ben-Gvir while blocking suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
Dear @Antonio_Tajani, that’s a fig leaf!
Italy is protecting Israel’s trade immunity while performing outrage.

Half the week: call Israel ambassador to protest kidnapping and torture of EU citizens, undermining of EU democracy with support for far right street thugs and starting wars sending EU economy into depression
Will European countries allow their citizens to be abducted in international waters and publicly abused and humiliated? What was that about law of the seas and human rights or something? I guess it doesn't apply to European citizens or countries.

Goodbye, Price Tags. Hello, Dynamic Pricing. And goodbye purchasing power. This could be an extremely important personal finance issue in coming years. We need stronger European consumer protection and competition directives to protect EU residents.

The Lancet Global Health published a study of the public health impacts of sanctions regimes. The results might surprise the good citizens of sanctioning countries.

Just 5 days after the EU launched its latest “press freedom” campaign, Berlin police were standing over journalists, checking the content of the @jungewelt newspaper today, to decide what the public is allowed to read.
And they still call this “press freedom” in Europe.
You can't make this up.
It's World Press Freedom Day, and these posters are on my doorstep: "Free Press. Protect what matters to us."
The very same @eucouncil literally sanctioned me for exactly that.
This is definitely going to be my campaign poster.

You read this... you want to post a snarky comment, but it's too stupifying. I'm just morally exhausted by this. It's something well beyond hypocritical. #EuropeOfValues ... there, I managed.
The European Union has warned Israel that it is ready to impose sanctions on those aiding and abetting the trade of Ukrainian grain stolen by Russia in the occupied territories, after a new ship loaded with the cereal arrived in the port of Haifa.

The Commission just presented the most structurally ambitious reform of EU policy-making since the Better Regulation Agenda in 2002, and the most ideologically charged.
Where previous reforms improved the BR toolkit as a governance instrument, this one repurposes it entirely, deploying it simultaneously:
•to erode procedural safeguards (two-tiered IAs, formalised derogations, flexible consultation)
•to systematically dismantle parts of the existing acquis (Deep Cleaning)
•to centralise implementation and enforcement (what I’d call the federal turn)
Combined with the anti-gold-plating drive and the formalised derogation powers, the Communication effectively creates an institutionalised channel through which external (including the US administration) deregulatory pressure can be translated into EU legislative action, with reduced procedural safeguards and limited independent oversight.
Thread follows. Full Communication: https://t.co/MddGGvj2Cu
Germany is a caricature of itself. We have a chancellor who goes after private citizens when he feels offended but is not offended by genocide.
More incompetent and decrepit politics, I have not known.
Back to this again..."Trump threatens to ‘blow up whole country’ if Iran does not sign peace deal." I'd make a joke about looking forward to Kallas issuing a condemnation of these insane and genocidal threats, but it's become too hackneyed and sad.

Another super-interesting convo w/ @kofinas on AI and the future of work and education. Often we hear similar insights: the knowledge from philosophy and history courses as well as the creative skills that come from the arts are increasingly important. 1/2

And yet, even more often University leaders and education policy makers double down on the opposite conclusions, cutting the humanities and the arts. This is a genuine conundrum for me. Why the discrepancy between insights and actions in this sector? 2/2
