This is US only it appears, seems to be related to mmWave 5G which is not available on Canadian/European models. Looking at tech specs on Apple’s websites for various regions show this difference.

The iPhone 12 (all models) does indeed have the plastic window that looks like the iPad Pro Apple Pencil charger on the side with the power button. Apple didn’t say what it’s for.

This headline is misleading. The bug has been solved by server side fix disabling the feature. The update coming next week enable the feature again. This would have you believe you’re still at risk, which you’re not.
