This reminds me of a similar experience I had. When I went to see Kung Fu Panda 4, someone came up to me and asked, “Are you going to see Dune: Part Two?”
I said, “No, I am here to fulfill my purpose in life as the legendary Kung Fu Panda Fanboy, and see Kung Fu Panda 4. The very first movie of the second Kung Fu Panda trilogy, which I have steadfastly waited over 8 years for.”
With tears starting to fill his eyes, he said, “Kung Fu Panda? I thought I’d never see another Kung Fu Panda film. Now that I know of its existence, I need to see it.”
I smiled and said, “I have extra tickets. I’d be more than happy to spare you some, my brother in fictional panda doing kung fu enthusiasm.”
He said, “That would be swell! I wish there was a way to repay you for your generous gift.”
I told him, “There’s no need for any of that. Just trying to help, it’s what Po would want.”
He said, “No, I insist, please take my wallet. There’s $400 in there.”
I smacked his hand away with the force of 10 strikes of lightning and once again stated that there was no need to repay me for my heroic sacrifice.
He stomped his foot and said, “NO! There will be no more of this nonsense. You will take your reward.”
I demanded, “Never! There is no time for this. We will be on our way to the theater now. To watch the legendary film about the funny Jack Black panda skadooshing bad guys.”
He said with a scowl, “I’m not going anywhere. And neither are you. Not until you take my wallet.”
I got into a defensive kung fu stance and said, “So be it. We will settle this the Kung Fu Panda way.”
We fought like Po and Tai Lung. We battled like DreamWorks and Disney. We feuded like Star Wars fans and Star Wars fans. He had more in him than I thought. But he was no match for my Kung Fu Panda expertise. I did all kinds of backflips, inner peace deflections, and chi attacks. With my eyes closed!
After I defeated him, I did the merciful and super heroic thing that a super cool and attractive hero would do. I dragged him into the theater so he could still watch the epic movie even after trying to kill me.
And then everyone clapped and bowed to me like I was the Dragon Warrior.
