You may have seen the news that Tesla is discussing a spinoff of its China operations in preparation of a merger with SpaceX. @Tesla @SpaceX @elonmusk

SpaceX's military entanglement makes owning any entity in China waayyyy too risky. Hence, this was an obvious move to derisk the transaction before announcement.

As we discussed several months ago, a merger between SpaceX and Tesla isn't really optional. It must happen since it creates too much ongoing drag on either stock's share price. A unification of these two Elon-linked tradable assets removes this 'attention diversion' overhang.

The reason why this is so important to Elon is because this makes it much easier to keep the share price up of the surviving, single entity: Elon can sell one, unified equity story. This is much convincing then a split one.

This is key underlying reason is that it enables Elon to continue accessing super low cost funding which a key strategic advantage.

It not only helps tremendously to pay for large R&D spend with share-based compensation but it also makes raising capital ultra cheap as the recent $90 billion SpaceX raise at ultra high valuation demonstrated.
