DRDO is now building a GaN based radar for this AWACS that closes the frontal blind spot older Netra jets had.

Here is what this is all about👇

• Netra Mk1 only covered 240 degrees, leaving a gap straight ahead of the aircraft
• Mk2 adds a nose mounted radar covering 60 degrees, taking total coverage to 300 degrees
• It runs on Airbus A321 jets bought from Air India, bigger and tougher than the old Embraer planes
• Two radar panels, each 10 metres long, sit above the fuselage in a fixed balance beam design
• Thousands of GaN based transmit receive modules from DRDO's LRDE power these panels
• The full programme is valued at ₹11,000 crore, with private companies now building parts like the radar hood
• China already runs over 30 AWACS near India's borders, making this upgrade a genuine catch up move

A radar that cannot see what's directly ahead is a real problem for a plane meant to watch the whole sky. Closing that gap is not a small fix, it changes what this aircraft can actually do in a real fight.

India is not just building a bigger AWACS, it is finally building one that can watch its own front door 🇮🇳
