My name is Precious from Kanyama, Lusaka. I’m not an economist I’m living what debt means.
Debt isn’t numbers to us. It’s empty clinics, overcrowded schools, floods, hunger, and rising costs. It takes money away from our futures and puts more burden on women.

World Bank representative roasted by Debt for Climate during greenwashing event!
As the IMF & World Bank begin their annual meeting in Morocco to further their agenda of financial colonialism and climate destruction, #DebtforClimate kicked off our week of global mobilizations by disrupting a high-level greenwashing panel at Europe´s largest Youth Climate Conference, @lcoygermany.
While a team of D4C activists distributed scientific studies amongst the audience debunking the lies and displayed a banner for #DebtCancellation, co-founder @EstebanServat used his place on the panel to denounce the crimes committed by the financial institutions represented there, and gifted a toy green washing machine to the World Bank speaker.
The group then called for a walk-out, leading to the room quickly emptying and everyone spontaneously assembling outside to discuss real solutions and how we can come together for international #ClimateJustice!
Besides the World Bank, major German financial institutions such as the Bundesbank (whose President is Germany´s representative at the IMF), and BMZ (whose Minister is Germany´s representative at the World Bank) were also part of the panel.
The intervention also exposed how the LCOY conference series (which is financed with € 800,000 by the German government and presents itself as an open space for dialogue) is actually instrumentalized by the institutions that caused the climate crisis to pitch themselves as part of the solution, in an attempt to brainwash and influence young climate activists.
Join us around the world this week as we continue to confront financial colonialism head-on to turn debt into climate action!
