The Compulsory Treatment And Care For Victims Of Gunshot Act, 2017, was proposed by Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki led 8th Senate, and was assented to by then President Muhammadu Buhari.

That piece of legislation was introduced to protect Nigerians who have been victims of violence of any form.

The Maitama General Hospital erred in its decision not to provide emergency care to Late Greatness Olorunfemi.

I strongly call on the Ministry of Health, to sanction the leadership of the Maitama General Hospital for violating this very law.

Hospitals in Nigeria can NOT reject gunshot victims simply because of a police report. It's wrong! We have a law against it!

Aside from it not making any sense, why would you go to a police station after being injured rather than to the hospital?

There's also a “Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots Act, 2017”

This makes it compulsory for every hospital whether (private or public) to treat a victim of gunshot or stab wounds irrespective of whether the person has a police report or not
