For many Bangladeshis, the question is no longer about political rivalry—it's about the country's future.
Bangladesh's years of rapid infrastructure development, economic growth, and decisive governance under #SheikhHasina stand in sharp contrast to the political instability, economic uncertainty, and security challenges that have followed since 2024. It contends that, at this critical moment, Sheikh Hasina's leadership represents the experience and vision needed to restore stability, protect national sovereignty, and put the country back on the path of progress.

The water of the Turag River seem to be stained with the blood of Awami League activists.
Last year, Chhatra League leader Momin was killed, and his body was allegedly dumped in the Turag River. The brutality that began last year continues to this day. This time, Ariful, Biplob, and Suman were allegedly murdered, and their bodies were dumped in the Turag River. Four more activists remain missing.
On 23 June 2026, marking the founding anniversary of the Awami League, several Chhatra League leaders and activists held a peaceful rally and human chain. According to the allegation, seven activists were abducted from that procession by BNP–Jamaat supporters. Among them, the bodies of three were later recovered from the Turag River near Dhaka, while the remaining four are still missing.

Four Years of the Padma Bridge: A Monument to Vision and Determination
Four years ago, on June 25, 2022, Bangladesh witnessed a historic moment as the Padma Bridge opened to traffic. What many had once called impossible became a reality, connecting the southwest region of the country to the capital and unlocking new opportunities for millions of people.
The journey to the bridge was not easy. The project faced skepticism, financial challenges, and international controversies. Yet Bangladesh chose a path of self-reliance. Under the determined leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the government decided to finance the bridge with its own resources, demonstrating confidence in the nation’s capabilities.
Today, four years later, the Padma Bridge stands not only as a piece of infrastructure but as a symbol of national pride. It has reduced travel time, strengthened trade and commerce, boosted regional development, and improved the lives of countless citizens. Farmers can transport goods more efficiently, businesses can reach new markets, and families can travel with greater ease.
For many Bangladeshis, the bridge represents more than concrete and steel. It is a reminder that bold leadership, perseverance, and belief in a nation’s potential can overcome even the greatestobstacles.
As the #PadmaBridge marks its fourth anniversary, it remains a lasting testament to #SheikhHasina’s vision and determination, and to the resilience and aspirations of the people of #Bangladesh.j

Three senior political figures from Thakurgaon are gone. Former minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, veteran MP Dabirul Islam, and local leader Akram Ali all died within a relatively short period, leaving supporters and residents searching for answers.
All three had faced detention or legal proceedings before their deaths. While authorities maintain that due process was followed, family members and critics continue to raise concerns about prison conditions, access to medical care, and the circumstances surrounding their final days.
As mourning continues, so do calls for transparency, accountability, and independent investigations.
Three lives lost. One district. One question: Could more have been done to protect their lives?

Shocking brutality in Khulna, Bangladesh. 3 innocent people, including two young children of Awami League leader Rafiq Bhuiyan, were abducted and brutally murdered by @bdbnp78 terrorists over extortion and property grabbing. The world must stand against such horrific violence.

📷 What is the Joliot-Curie Peace Medal and why Bangabandhu received this recognition?
---
Some well-known individuals who have been honoured with the 'Juliot Curie Peace Medal' include Martin Luther King from the USA, Fidel Castro from Cuba, Gamal Abdel Nasser from Egypt, Salvador Allende from Chile, Pablo Neruda from Chile, Nazim Hikmet from Turkey, Julius Fucik from Czechoslovakia, Pablo Picasso from Spain, Paul Robeson from the USA, Yasser Arafat from Palestine, Leonid Brezhnev from the Soviet Union, and Julius Nyerere from Tanzania, among others.
The 'Joliot Curie Peace Medal' was created in 1950 to recognize individuals who have played a significant role in opposing imperialism, and fascism, and promoting humanity to establish global peace. The medal took into account the lifelong efforts of Bangabandhu towards peace when considering recipients for this prestigious award.
From his days as a student, Sheikh Mujib actively participated in the struggle for the rights of oppressed people and advocated for non-violence. After the partition of the country in 1947, he led the Bengali language movement, striving to achieve rights through peaceful means. However, his commitment to non-violence led to his imprisonment for an extended period. In 1952, he started a hunger strike while in jail to protest against the shooting of peaceful student protesters by the Pakistani authorities. His deteriorating health compelled the authorities to release him, fearing widespread unrest. In the same year, as a young leader of the Awami League, he attended the China Peace Conference.
Later, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman participated in the World Peace Council conference held in Sweden in 1956. During the event, he expressed his strong commitment to world peace, stating, "World peace is the principle of my life." I am with the oppressed, repressed, exploited and freedom-seeking people – no matter where they live. We want peace to be maintained everywhere in the world, and it should be consolidated.”
Before the Partition in 1946, during the Calcutta riots, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as a student leader under Chief Minister Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, worked tirelessly to establish peace. He actively campaigned to prevent religious riots and bravely risked his life to protect everyone, regardless of their religious affiliation. Whether it was Muslims being attacked by Hindus or Hindus being attacked by Muslims, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman intervened to save and safeguard both communities.
The traumatic riots of 1946 had a profound impact on Bangabandhu, leading him towards a non-communal political stance. So he always said, “First I am human, then Bengali, then Muslim.” Based on this non-communalism, later Bangabandhu unified the nation for the liberation struggle of Bengalis and to achieve independence.
Bangabandhu strongly opposed war and violence throughout his life. After Bangladesh gained independence, he clearly stated in the country's foreign policy, "Friendship to all, Malice towards none." Even in the challenging first three months of post-war Bangladesh, he took the lead in the rehabilitation efforts for approximately 20 million displaced people. One of his primary goals was to rebuild the destroyed homes of one crore refugees who returned from India, as well as provide housing for another crore of internally displaced people through government initiatives. Following in her father's footsteps, the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has continued this noble ideal and has constructed homes for around one million homeless individuals through the Ashrayan project.

Statement by Bangladesh Awami League Condemning the Ban Passed Through a One-Sided Bill in a Unilateral Parliament
——
Today, the National Parliament of Bangladesh has been disgraced. A shameful chapter has been written in history. Through a so-called election, a parliament was formed which, disregarding democratic culture and values, has passed a bill banning the historic political party that led Bangladesh in the Liberation War—the Bangladesh Awami League. We express deep concern, strong condemnation, and protest against this disgraceful act.
The National Parliament is a sacred institution. It represents the spirit of democratic culture in the country. Yet, it has been used in this manner to establish the dominance of anti-independence and anti-state forces. Such a decision is not merely targeted at a single political party; rather, it is a direct attack on democratic practices, a fair political system, and the fundamental rights of the people. The attempt to ban a political institution built through history, tradition, and struggle questions the very spirit of democracy and pushes the state toward a one-party or authoritarian path. It is also an act of hostility toward history itself—something the people of this country will never accept.
We firmly believe that the strength of a political party lies with the people. If it remains beloved by the people, no force in the world can suppress it. Repression, bans, or the misuse of law can never bring lasting solutions; instead, they create instability and division in society and hinder democratic culture.
In this context, we call upon all pro-democracy citizens, political parties, civil society, professional organizations, and the youth of the country to unite in the struggle for democratic rights, freedom of expression, and the rule of law.
The victory of the people and democracy is inevitable. Inspired by history and strengthened in our beliefs, we will continue our movement and struggle.
Joy Bangla

Bankers said they were asked at a recent meeting to campaign for a “Yes” vote on issues included in the referendum. The directive reportedly stemmed from a letter sent by the Chief Adviser’s Office on January 5, according to bankers familiar with the matter. Pressure to act intensified about a week later during a meeting chaired by BB Governor Ahsan H Mansur.
Mashrur Arefin, chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), confirmed to The Daily Star that managing directors and CEOs were explicitly asked to advocate for a “Yes” vote.
Is it the BB Governor’s job to lobby for a controversial referendum?
The government cannot take a stand in favor of “YES” in the so-called referendum they are putting forth, let alone spend public money on it. Taxpayer money cannot be used to support any particular side. Since the options in the referendum are both “YES” and “NO,” those who vote “NO” are also citizens of this country and taxpayers.

NEWS18: What is the future of Bangladesh if this election proceeds?
SW: Bangladesh will become an Islamist state under Jamaat-e-Islami if a rigged election is allowed to take place.
NEWS18: Who is the Awami League’s biggest enemy—Jamaat or BNP?
SW: Jamaat, without question. The BNP is a political opponent, not an enemy. Jamaat opposes an independent Bangladesh and wants to turn it into a terrorist state.
