Dear Rufai,
I hope this email finds you well.
Let me begin by acknowledging the audacious work you have continued to do in the media space in the interest of our dear Nation.
By this email, I am joining other concerned beneficiaries of the 2025 Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Local Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, in urgently drawing your attention and that of the general public to the continued delay in the disbursement of scholarship awards to successful beneficiaries of the programme.
It has now been over eight months since the scholarship awards were announced, yet beneficiaries across the region (including myself) are still awaiting disbursement from the Commission despite completing verification.
The prolonged delay has caused severe hardship to over 400 affected scholars, many of whom relied on the scholarship to fund their education, tuition, accommodation, research, and other academic expenses.
For some beneficiaries, the situation has become devastating. Due to the inability to pay outstanding school fees, some students have reportedly been denied access to examinations and academic activities by their institutions, placing their educational future in serious jeopardy.
The NDDC scholarship scheme was established to support educational advancement and human capital development within the Niger Delta. However, the continued silence and delay surrounding payment have left many beneficiaries frustrated, distressed, and uncertain about their academic future.
We are deeply concerned that a programme intended to empower Niger Delta youths is now becoming a source of hardship, academic disruption, and mental stress for the very students it was designed to support.
Despite repeated inquiries and appeals by beneficiaries, there has been little or no clear communication regarding the reasons for the delay or a definite timeline for payment.
We respectfully call on the management of the NDDC to:
1. Immediately provide an official update on the status of the scholarship disbursement
2. Release a clear and transparent payment timeline, and
3. Expedite payment to prevent further academic and financial hardship for affected students.
We passionately appeal to you, media organizations (like Arise TV), civil society groups, student bodies, and other stakeholders across the Niger Delta to lend their voices to this issue in the interest of transparency, accountability, education, and youth development.
This appeal is peaceful, sincere, and motivated solely by the urgent need to protect the academic future and welfare of the affected scholars.
I have attached a copy of my award letter for your review and discretionary action.
Thank you for your attention.
Yours faithfully,
Alistair Asikong,
2025 NDDC Local Masters Scholarship Awardee

I saw a tweet sometime ago, about lawyers going into practice before starting their LLM program and I am here to say that I totally agree and recommend this.
