@CapWages Byram not a pending UFA and can’t sign any extension until July 1st. What is this analysis? I know it’s a massive over pay but the analysis makes it seem as if not doing something they legally cannot do yet is what sealed it as being bad.
@jbaraldi11@JFreshHockey Only issue is everyone wants a top 6 forward right now and those that have them for sale want roster players and not so much futures. Hawks are only flush with futures so most teams will want them to overpay in futures since they’re not getting roster players.
@Chi_Prospects@scottcwheeler Three far away defensemen and a massive project winger with a low likelihood of hitting after falling massively all year. This would not be the greatest from the fan prospective.
@RidingThePine21@dwtreadwell73 Borque is essentially the same player as Nazar except needs a contract. It’s already stated Frondell is 2C. Maybe Kantserov will be play with Bedsy but hard to envision a line with 2, 5’9 players. None of this actually fits, hence why we all want Robo.
@KrakenCanada@ProducerDrew_ At 31 with 7 years left on that deal at $7m AAV, Verhage is probably more valuable to FLA currently than the return that would be coming back or the players signed/acquired with the cap space. Unless it’s Helley being acquired.
@johnny_rudeboy@Ev_Stahley@iamhockey1 Knies is probably a slightly better skater but not by much. Frondell has Knies beat in pretty much every other category at a younger age and has the traits to play center. 9 pts in 12 games after playing a full season against men in Sweden and never playing NA hockey
@AdamFly96727825 I agree, GMMG doesn’t seem to be the type of GM to be swayed by something like that. Doesn’t mean Stenberg’s camp can’t try. GMMG could also be doing this himself to drum up trade offers to move ahead of Chicago if Chicago isn’t offering much to move up.
@AdamFly96727825 And his agent wanted him next to the most commercially profitable hockey player since Gretzky. Both can be true. Stenberg pays his agent to think of money and that’s what this would be. I’m sure Stenberg is confident no matter where he goes.
@AdamFly96727825 Wanted him next to Mario to maximize contract earnings in a better market since all 3 had great young centers. Quebec was collapsing and moved to COL 5 years later while DET hadn’t won a cup since ‘55 at that point and wasn’t nearly the market it is today.
@AdamFly96727825 Quebec had Sakic and Detroit had Yzerman both 24 or younger coming off 100+ point seasons and both picked ahead of Pittsburgh. Wanting to play with talent wasn’t it.
@AdamFly96727825 Doesn’t prevent the agent from trying to influence picks. Jagr’s agent told everyone before Pittsburgh he wasnt gonna come over anytime soon even though he absolutely was so he could get everyone to pass on him and get him next to Mario. Any of the top 4 could have drafted Jagr.
@AdamFly96727825 I guess I see Askarov being more likely to take the jump than Lev. I would say Rinzel could pop off for a major deal. If either of those guys do make a leap for Chicago, the hawks cap calculus completely changes and so does agent perspective. Both teams at ~$40m space this year
@misabrini771@AdamFly96727825 You continue to refuse to engage in the agent perspective of this, but that’s fine as most fan won’t. His agent trying to position him for the largest possible contracts is his agent’s job, but that doesn’t mean it prevents SJS from drafting him. It’s just a part of the process.
@AdamFly96727825 Major SJS contracts: Celebrini, Smith, Misa, Askarov vs Major CHI contracts: Bedard, Frondell. I’ve left off Graf, Dickinson, Rinzel, and Lev as I think those guys will get more reasonable deals. The calculus changes if Rinzel or Lev pop off this year before resigning.
@misabrini771@AdamFly96727825 What am I coping with? I’m simply explaining why this is probably happening and how it happens every year. I’m not arguing it’s the absolute determinant factor of where he ultimately gets drafted. I am arguing it’s a part of the process.
@LEHK0NEN In Stenberg graphic to the left of his overall scores is clearly states 5v5 only whereas that’s not the case on the Villeneuve graphic. Unless I’m mistaken and the Villeneuve graphic is only showing stats for 5v5.
@AdamFly96727825 I’m really not, you’re just not used to the agent perspective. More guys in SJ will need bigger contracts sooner than guys on CHI before Stenberg even gets to RFA. That means less cap space to make a deal, which means stenberg has to take less to stay = less money for agent.
@misabrini771@AdamFly96727825 You obviously have zero knowledge on sporting contracts. It has nothing to do with beating out people for spots and everything to do with maximizing career earnings and setting up your contracts to do that. This game is played by agents in every draft for every pro sport.
