A video has gone viral on social media platforms that shows a male Assam police personnel lathi-charging a female student of the national institute of technology (NIT)-Silchar in Cachar district of Assam. Students carried out a protest after one student died by suicide in hostel.

The Administration met over a meeting and passed a resolution towards the burning issue.

However, students have expressed their dissatisfaction regarding the resolution and it seeks no action against the Dean. Hence, students have decided to sit on a hunger strike until justice is served.
Koj Buker, the third-year student of NIT-Silchar allegedly died by taking an ‘extreme step’ on the campus, following which his classmates began a protest that eventually turned violent, prompting the police to lathi charge, in which 40 people were injured.
The body of the student, a native of Arunachal Pradesh was found in his hostel room. His classmates prevented the police from removing the body, accusing college authorities of pushing him to this tragic end.
