Bendigo Writers Festival sent out a Code of Conduct form speakers must abide by which includes the bogus IHRA definition of antisemitism… the day before the festival starts. Hard to imagine a bigger, more absurd own goal. Several authors and festival staff have now left.
It shouldn't be left to writers to walk out, but also publishers, editors, book sellers and of course, audiences... EVERYONE has an obligation to turn their back to the Bendigo Writers Festival. Any writer or anyone in the industry who plays along pretending business can go on as usual will be tarnished. Your presence is a statement. Also, if writers and speakers were to follow the festival's instructions to" avoid language or topics that could be considered inflammatory, divisive, or disrespectful" then there wouldn't be much use in speaking or writing anymore. #bendigo_writers_festival #censorship #SanctionIsraelNow #palestinegaza https://t.co/buSoltf8cf
If you’re a secret Zionist just don’t program me. Don’t wait until the last minute to let me know that you’re a Zionist and hope I’ll just go through with the event anyway. There isn’t a price tag or a career inconvenience that will make me accept your propaganda.

An essay in which I unpack Evie Wyld's dehumanisation of Blak people & coopting of Blak trauma in her latest sad white girl novel. With a reference to Portlandia's Put a Bird On It woven in.

Richard Flanagan: "It's time for the government … to respect Australian writers … otherwise, we'll find ourselves back where we were in the 1950s — [a] cultural desert." An old chestnut this one... https://t.co/6d0Zo8KqWC

Last week I applied for a job with a disability services org, and an AI platform emailed a list of everything that's wrong with me as a person.
Way more Australian companies are using this platform than I realised.
Here's what I wrote about it.

And @kellinthewoods' UPON A STARLIT TIDE, a remix of The Little Mermaid and Cinderella, is just gorgeous - inside and out.
"The tales always said that sea maids were the loveliest of creatures known, that their beauty and their voices led men to their delight or their doom."
