This story out of Rivers State, Nigeria, is pure tragedy, the kind that leaves you angry, hollow, and heartbroken 💔

A child walked out of his home… and vanished into a nightmare that lasted nearly two decades.

At just 14 years old, Gospel Kinamee left his house one day and never returned. His family searched everywhere; police stations, prisons, hospitals, even mortuaries. Door after door was knocked on. Every lead ended in silence. Eventually, hope began to fade.

What they didn’t know was that Gospel wasn’t missing.
He was locked away.

For 18 years, he lived behind prison walls, without a trial, without a conviction, without an offence.

In 2026, during the Rivers State Jail Delivery Exercise flagged off by the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, a lawyer asked Gospel’s brother to come and check the names of 21 inmates scheduled for release from the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.

Then came the moment that shattered everything.

His brother saw him.
Alive, but broken.

After 18 stolen years, Gospel had finally resurfaced, but his family could barely recognize the boy they lost. His brother later spoke with deep concern about Gospel’s mental state, scarred by years of unjust confinement.

The most chilling revelation, his family knew him as Gospel Kinamee but prison records listed him as Baridi Sunday.

According to police records, Baridi Sunday was a 22-year-old man arrested for armed robbery.

Somehow, a child became another man. A missing boy became a criminal on paper. And the system never noticed or never cared.

Now, Gospel’s family is suing the government for $7.3 million, demanding compensation for 18 years of freedom stolen, for childhood erased, and for a life permanently altered without due process.

This isn’t just a legal failure.
It’s a moral collapse.

What kind of system allows a child to disappear into prison for nearly two decades, unnamed, untried, unheard.
