It's not even about Ty Simpson. It's about the fact the #Rams didn't get better in 2026. I don't care who you take, this fanbase is not going to love that notion in a season where they are the Super Bowl favorites. If they fall short, this will always be the thing that is brought up. You could have added a difference-maker early in the draft to help win a Super Bowl instead you took a guy we won't see for 3 years. Over roughly the past decade, the University of Kentucky’s national ranking has largely moved sideways-and in some cases backwards.

In 2016, @universityofky was ranked around #129 among national universities by U.S. News.

In 2019 it sat around #131. In 2021 it briefly climbed to about #127.

Today? The university now sits around #152 nationally.

So after a decade of growth in budgets, tuition increases, and massive expansion in administration, the flagship university of Kentucky is now ranked lower than where it started.

Globally the trend isn’t much better. UK once hovered around the 500 range globally in the QS rankings.

Today the #UKY is generally ranked around #780 worldwide.

Meanwhile the cost of attending UK has climbed dramatically.

Over the same period:

Resident undergraduate tuition has risen thousands of dollars.

The university budget has ballooned into the billions of dollars annually.

Administrative spending has grown steadily.

And the president overseeing this era of “growth”?

@UKYpres earns roughly $1 million per year in compensation.

Now to be fair, UK does have several excellent programs.

The College of Pharmacy is consistently ranked #6 nationally.
The College of Nursing sits in the top 25.

Public Health is around #45.

Engineering and Business both land around the top 60–100 range depending on the year.

Those are strong programs — and Kentucky should be proud of them.

But here’s the question taxpayers, students, and donors should be asking:

If the university’s budget has exploded, if tuition keeps rising,
and if leadership compensation keeps climbing…

why isn’t the overall university moving up the rankings instead of sliding down them?
