🔸DID YOU KNOW?
Jonah Fabisch is the son of legendary former Warriors football manager, Reinhard Fabisch - the fire behind Zimbabwe’s infamous “Dream Team.”
The "Dream Team" was the iconic national football squad of the early-to-mid 1990s, coached by German Reinhard Fabisch. The team was made up of footballing superstars like Peter Ndlovu and Bruce Grobbelaar. During this time, Zimbabwe achieved the nation's highest FIFA ranking (40th) while narrowly missing World Cup qualification despite beating top teams like Egypt and South Africa. They are remembered as one of the best Zimbabwean teams assembled.
Jonah was born to outstanding Zimbabwean athlete and former national 100 metres hurdles record holder, Chawada Kachidza and Reinhard Fabisch in Kenya on the 13th of August 2001.
He currently plays as a midfielder for German club, FC Erzgebirge Aue.
In a full circle moment, Jonah now plays for the Zimbabwean national team. The game against Egypt was his first appearance at AFCON and his seventh cap for the Warriors. He made his Zimbabwe debut in an AFCON qualifier against Ethiopia in November 2021, before a spell out of the team until ex-coach Michael Nees recalled him in June this year.
Quick, electric and nimble in the midfield, Jonah, together with an exciting combination of experienced and fresh players, embodies the resurgence of Zimbabwe’s Dream Team who espouse a revived Warrior spirit after some turbulent years in football.
In an interview, Jonah explained that while he draws inspiration from his late father, he is charting his own path and feels no pressure.
Reinhard Fabisch died in Germany on 12 July 2008, but through Jonah his memory and warrior spirit live on.
