The Federal Reserve has raised the Fed rate by 25 basis points to 3.75% - 4%. This is the 1st increase since 2023.
This will lead to a stronger US Dollar due to higher demand. Debt service for foreign holdings has just become more expensive Ceteris Paribus.
If the court of appeal upholds the nullification of 15% Safaricom stake sale (which they should), that means over $ 1.8Bn in Dollar outflows, again making an already bad situation worse.
This comes at a time when the Country must import over 20M bags of maize just to bridge the demand gap.
With crude above $100 Per Barrel, the problem becomes more exacerbated.
Stock markets globally will become less attractive in the short term as better returns though marginally make the fixed income instruments more enticing.
Expect the CBK’s Monetary Policy Committee to follow suit especially if there is no political interference on their decision. This will make the domestic debt more expensive.
With a country that is currently spending 75% of ordinary revenue on debt service and which is set to rise to around 90% next year, we will be lucky to get through without debt restructuring which may include moratoriums and haircuts. This may sound like kizungu mingi but this is the 1st Chapter of defaulting. If we don’t change course NOW, it will be difficult for our economy to honor financial obligations especially to Bond holders.
The government is pretending to be confident but we are in a very dire situation as a Country. Actually very very bad situation. Unfortunately, this will affect many unsuspecting and innocent Kenyans in very many ways.
We’ll revisit this post pretty soon. Management of the Economy does not respect PR. You simply just have to do the hard work. This is the stubborn paradox.
We are African and Africa is our Business..
Quit living worried about your health, your finances, how you could accomplish that dream. God has not brought you this far to leave you. He’s taken care of you in the past; He’s going to take care of you in the future.
The scripture says, “Rain falls on the just and the unjust.” No one is exempt from difficulties. But if you’ll stay in faith, that setback is setting you up for God to show out in your life.
@JoelOsteen Amen! Nothing is too hard for God!
Sickness? It’s nothing!
Job loss? It’s nothing!
Depression? It’s nothing!
Anxiety? It’s nothing!
Addictions? It’s nothing!
Marriage problems? It’s nothing!
“there is NOTHING too hard for thee:”
- Jeremiah 32:17
God can fix it all!
Be blessed!
It may be impossible to you, but it’s not to our God. Start expecting His favor. Start believing that new levels are coming. Start talking like it’s going to happen.
When we understand that waiting doesn’t mean that nothing is happening, it doesn’t mean that God’s forgotten about us, it’s all a part of the process. Then we can live in faith, knowing that at the right time, God will get us to where we’re supposed to be.
Sometimes we think it’s a lack of faith to say, “I don’t know.” We think we have to have all the answers, have it all figured out. Take the pressure off. You don’t have to know; God knows. He has you in the palm of His hand. He’s directing your steps.
God hears your prayers. He sees your faithfulness. He sees you believing when you don’t see things changing, thanking Him when you could be complaining. Your time is coming. You wouldn’t be reading this if God didn’t have breakthroughs coming your way.
You weren’t created to live worried, guilty, upset, bitter. If you’re going to reach your destiny, you have to clear out the clutter. You can’t stop negative things from coming, but you can keep them from staying. You don’t have to hold on to it.
Quit being discouraged by what you see. What you see is subject to change. You don’t know what God is up to. You don’t know what He’s doing behind the scenes.
Don’t be impatient for God to act. Don’t be frustrated by what’s not happening. God is working. You’re in the waiting room. You’re being prepared for what God has prepared for you.
