The Sikh Federation (UK) @sikhfeduk has written to the Home Secretary @ShabanaMahmood Justice Secretary @DavidLammy Attorney General @attorneygeneral calling for a statutory public inquiry into the preventable death of Henry Novak, police conduct and institutional failures to unnecessarily bring the sacred Sikh Kirpan into disrepute.
The following broadcast is going out as an exclusive on @SkyNews since this morning.
This is an opportunity for the leaders of all political parties @Keir_Starmer@KemiBadenoch@EdwardJDavey@Nigel_Farage@ZackPolanski@StephenFlynnSNP@LSRPlaid etc. to examine our submission, the scope of the inquiry, suggested terms of reference and come together for Henry Novak’s family and stand with the law-abiding Sikh community as there has been catastrophic multi-agency failures surrounding the tragic death of 18-year-old Henry Novak, the operational conduct of the responding officers, and the severe institutional and cultural failures during the subsequent criminal trial at Southampton Crown Court.
While criminal justice has been served against the perpetrator, the wider systemic failures exposed by this case demand immediate, independent, and transparent investigation.
A non-statutory or internal review cannot address the cross-jurisdictional failures of the police, the CPS, and the courts. A statutory public inquiry is the only mechanism capable of delivering accountability.
@Dabinderjit will be live on Sky News at around 8.15am.
#Sikhs have lived in Britain for over a century—many made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country wearing both #turban and #kirpan.
As I wrote in the @Telegraph, Sikhs deserve better than a knee-jerk reaction curbing these hard-won religious freedoms.

Sikh community leaders tell @LisaatSky they raised concerns about Vickrum Digwa before he went on to kill Henry Nowak, but believe police didn't take warnings seriously enough. Hampshire police said they followed up all available lines of enquiry at the time of the complaint.
The Sikh community is facing a wave of abuse in the wake of the Digwa murder case.
The Singh Sabha Southall Gurdwara says it has received poisonous phone calls, with people branding Sikhs murderers and hurling abuse at their faith. In the West Midlands, police are treating a violent attack on a Sikh family, in which a 72-year-old man suffered a broken cheekbone and fractured shoulder, as racially motivated.
In the face of online threats, community members have begun standing guard outside their Gurdwara. Leaders have firmly rejected any attempt to link the place of worship to the crime, warning that fanning division only lets hate spread further.
A community being punished for the actions of one man.
