A quick update for everyone following today's event at Universal Studios UK...
It now appears that today's gathering was not a ground-breaking ceremony, at least based on the information available right now.
According to several trusted sources (thank you to those who reached out), today's event was actually the project's official naming ceremony. We're also hearing that the media embargo is due to be lifted at 2:30pm today, so we should start seeing coverage appear across news outlets very soon.
I now know the official name, but I'm going to respect the embargo and keep that under wraps until it's lifted. Hopefully that earns me a few brownie points! π·
**UNIVERSAL**, I know you read these posts... pretty please put me on the press list! π·

Still no official word on exactly what's happening, but there was definitely something going on at the site today.
A large group of people in brand-new hi-vis vests gathered around the JCB while a Sky News crew filmed and took photos. It certainly had all the hallmarks of a ground-breaking ceremony, although the JCB was parked on concrete and didn't actually dig anything while I was watching, so the jury is still out on that one!
I put the drone up for a quick look, but I deliberately kept my distance and remained outside the Universal boundary out of respect for what appeared to be a private event. As a result, I couldn't get close enough to see exactly what was happening but MEGA zoom worked well I think.
It also makes me wonder if Sky News is preparing a story. Their helicopter was circling the area yesterday and, presumably, filming the site from above. Hopefully they managed to point the cameras at the right piece of land this time! π
What do you think was going on?

Concerns have been raised that a proposed 490-space car park at the new East West Rail station in Lidlington could end up being used by visitors heading to Universal Studios UK.
Councillor Sue Clark warned that without the planned Ridgmont station, Lidlington could come under increasing pressure and risk becoming "collateral damage" from the resort's popularity. However, East West Rail has stressed that Lidlington is not being designed or promoted as a park-and-ride site, describing it instead as a station for local rail users.
The debate highlights the ongoing questions around transport infrastructure, parking and traffic management as plans for Universal Studios UK continue to progress across the Marston Vale.
