I know the rocks are different stylistically, I just don't have any assets I can use that look like those specifically, but would you guys be interested in learning how I quickly created this setup in #UnrealEngine using PCG?
It's been a while since Data Assets were introduced to PCG in #UnrealEngine 5.4. Would you guys be interested in an updated video on that? Maybe also going a bit more in depth on some stuff too?
Some people feel intimidated using #UnrealEngine 5's PCG system. I have made a simple little video showing how you can start using PCG without ever learning or making a single node.
In 5.7, PCG became production ready so now is as good a time as any to start using it if you were holding off in the past!

@AyaZyndoulain But we don't know from where though, right? It could have been from the Fortnite team or some other team as well. Epic Games is a massive company with lots of departments.
I'll be honest, I feel it's way too early to be talking about #UnrealEngine6 as a potential release. There are so many things in #UnrealEngine 5 that are not only extremely buggy but are just being introduced and experimental.
My main concern is that UE6 will be released before UE5 is fully fleshed out and polished. It honestly feels like it'll be another Fab. Something being developed and potentially pushed out way before it's ready.
I genuinely hope that UE5 will be left in a good spot before UE6 launches: Experimental features finished, lots of the bugs fixed, and at least a single update focusing exclusively on performance optimizations across the board.
@AyaZyndoulain Yup! Teaser to announcement for UE5 was just under 2 years. 1 year in was the start of the preview build. So they have time to finish things up if it ends up as the same kind of timeline. It'd be 2 years sooner than UE4 > UE5, but as long as they wrap things up, I'm happy. :)
Yeah, and 5.0 was a continuation of 4.27. But performance did go down in 5.0 and there were more bugs that were added that weren't fixed for several versions.
Some features get removed along the way too. Displacements were removed for a long time for example, but available in 4.27. That's why are people even to this day that have been using 4.27 still. Or 4.23 I believe if they want to build an HTML build.
@EmanuilDinev Only reason why I'm a bit concerned is they're showing off a game in UE6, one that I don't think needs that much development time. So timeline wise has me a bit concerned. But if they get it all good by UE6 release, they totally have my blessing. :)
@OverJumpRally Yeah, if they manage to polish up things in UE5 then they have my blessing to release UE6 at any time after that. Even if it was in a week.
The #UnrealEngine 5.8 Procedural Vegetation Basics Tutorial is now up!
It's very simple to start creating custom trees thanks to the new 5.8 nodes.
Go check out the video for yourself: https://t.co/CFwZAGo8yB
With #UnrealEngine 5.8, we get more procedural vegetation support to finally create things not only from scratch, but use other trees as a base if we want. Which is what this is.
I think this will be a fun tutorial to make for this Sunday. What do you guys think? 😉
It won't be super super in depth, since it's just preview and there's quite a bit of crashing and whatnot. But to get yourself familiar with some basics, I think it'll be good.
You can check it out on the youtube channel once it's out for free as always: https://t.co/A7j42VHo62
@delaigrodela I say I know and like materials, but stuff like this always makes me feel stupid cause it's so awesome and I can't even begin to think in math like this. 😅
@PetarCak You can use static mesh trees and it'll do its best to convert them to its system with all the branches automatically. Then you can spawn the leaves as you would normally, or make adjustments as needed. :)
