The foundation of nature is singular. this is something that eventually becomes impossible to ignore if you pay attention long enough. the number of forms is incomprehensible - roots systems, veins, river deltas, lightning, the same patterns repeating at every scale, as each thing flows into the next with no respect for your categories. the great mistake of the modern mind was to take this multiplicity and conclude separation, when the truth is the opposite. everything is connected to an undivided root that will never reveal itself fully to anybody, not to me, not to any man living or dead, and still it holds every last thing together without ceasing for a single moment. since before the world was, the word was, and the word was with God, and nothing that was made was made without it
If a Current Thing is a Thing enough times, it becomes The Thing. The Thing can run for a decade plus, until it becomes a parody of itself. Then The Thing quietly goes away. Even if The Thing has wrecked your whole world, you’re still silent about it. It was never a thing.
In my experience, 99 times out of 100, people who ask "why do you care about this thing" almost always care intensely about that thing, but in the opposite direction.
Observe this simple method of estimating the actual depth of a man's character, in the presence of those who cannot advantage him. the simpering wretch who grins and genuflects before his superiors then turns to bark at some sallow underpaid waitress because his water came late has told you everything you need to know about his entire bloodline
Ron Baron this morning on CNBC on Elon Musk becoming a Trillionaire:
"If you are worth a Trillion or two, or three, or five, what difference does it make? That’s not what he’s interested in. He’s trying to save humanity."
This. 🎯
A moving sight: Notre Dame de Paris, restored 5 years after a devastating fire by 1,000 craftspeople, reviving medieval techniques, supported by >300,000 donations -- a testament to what humanity can accomplish when people work together toward a constructive goal.
“To make it the ultimate platform for free speech... a place where anyone can share ideas without heavy censorship and where the truth can win.”
- Elon Musk
Interview with Elon Musk from 2012: " My proceeds from PayPal after tax were about $180M, $100M of that went into SpaceX, $70M into Tesla, and $10M into SolarCity and I literally had to borrow money for rent."
