When this book came out in April 2020, I was told that because of Covid, it would only have a small print run.
Can you RT & help me make sure that was a wrong prediction and that sinking 7 years into the research was worth it?
It sets the stage for what's been happening since!
As @estherkimlee said, in addition to the absurdity of wanting #realism in your #mermaids, there's the crucial point that stories have to be about all of us, and one key way of doing that is returning to old stories and telling them with the bodies we want speaking to our future
"Mommy! ... She's brown like me!"

@estherkimlee Yes to all of this! In my book, Building Character, I argue that this also means it's about who we then see as the Doctor, the President, etc. #RepresentationMatters
Thanks to Dr. Benoit Lacroix for giving Neshia and me a tour of his lab and the greenhouse! Neshia is a #Sloan cuny-suny speedway researcher at @SBUArtsSciences@GEOStonyBrook this summer. @therealtglotch
@noemontez Once the diss has begun, a lot of the factors are already determined. Advising earlier, even before it's "my" grad student or "your" graduate student, makes more of a difference, I would say.
@noemontez If we are including non-academic positions when we discuss "the market" which we (imho) must, then I would say a whole lot. If we are talking about helping with cover letter, talking about TT job openings, etc., I'd say not much.
@classicalharlem 's Twelfth Night in @MarcusGarveyPA is brilliant, hilarious, fun, and wonderfully acted. The best thing I've seen in a park in a long time--and perhaps my favorite 12th Night. Grateful to @Thisbysmantle @valerie_pye and @carladellagatta for a perfect night.
@pr_hamlet This is missing a couple of lines--if you want to shorten, that's fine but make sure it still makes sense. Also, why do you think he feels that revenge is sweet as he's dying?
I'm excited to give the second of two talks on Shakespeare and cognitive poetics tonight for Harbin Technical Institute, China. Tonight is "Hamlet's Mirror." DM me if you want the zoom link. @myrifield#Shakespeare
