Professor of ye 18th century letters. "I have been in such a Twitter my self before now" (S. Centlivre, 1707). Opinions mine + at no one's behest. He/him/his
@agraybee He's going to have to do a version of the speech Obama gave after Jeremiah Wright and "God damn America." Or come up with a counterpunch we haven't heard before.
@1Chillwind@amyliztweets Also, Mamdani's whole vibe is beaming with excitement about what he wants to do and will get to do. Platner's vibe is like he just bit his tongue for the second time.
@Wilson__Valdez "That politician reminds me of this lady at work" relies on there being lots of such ladies at work, right? Otherwise it's just a reminder of some compound of weird stereotypes.
@Wilson__Valdez AFAICT the "oversized, over-powerful buzzkill HR department" doesn't seem that prevalent in work beyond certain sectors and certain large-scale operations within those sectors. So the number of people who have experienced this as an actual problem can't be very large.
@capitolhunters@LisaTalmadge Schools got more serious about bullying after Columbine. Just a hypothesis for why this *kind* of guy could run into trouble in school to the point of getting kicked out.
Platner became the front runner because a group of professional political operatives packaged his story into a video and distributed it to Bernieโs small donor list, giving him an insurmountable financial advantage. He wasnโt just a random guy discovered by Mainers.
@davidcrockett08 Platner is much better suited for the role Piker somehow ended up playing than Piker is, but he doesn't feel at all suited to sitting in meetings about tax incentives and early childhood education.
@davidcrockett08 I still say I would much rather have this guy as a podcaster than holding any role in elected office. And not because I'd listen but because *those* are the itches he scratches: gruff attitude, colorful stories, more about airing grievances than problem-solving, etc.
@agraybee I typically roll my eyes at the media commonplace of Changing The Conversation but if ever there was a candidate who needed it, it's this guy, and fast
@CentristMadness The idea that "rich liberals" are disproportionately on one side but not the other is... a lot to take. One kind of well-to-do professional-class liberal has aligned with Platner and another kind had at one point aligned with Mills.
Lefties tried to disqualify Mallory McMorrow for her *husband* being in a relationship with a woman who ended up working in conservative politics, but for some weird reason they don't care about this
