@FastingMethod Why is OMAD not recommended for those with metabolic syndrome / insulin resistance ? Is there a fasting protocol that would be better for those cases?
@Thrival1 @tednaiman Treatment fallout post bone marrow transplant age 8 has included: cholangiocarcinoma, thyroid and testicular cancers, some basal cell carcinomas, metabolic synd (lean phenotype), heart attack at age 39. Thanks to this amazing community, finally starting to figure it all out.
@tednaiman I have about 10 yrs of bloodwork & other data tracking my attempts to manage metabolic syndrome induced by a permanent alteration of my fat threshold by childhood radiation therapy. Synopsis: high fat worsens triglycerides (+500) and A1C for me. Your book = gold.
@Thrival1 @tednaiman A recent paper by Danielle Novetsky (I was enrolled in one of her studies that included harvesting and studying subcutaneous fat) in Hormone Research in Pediatrics gives ideas but it's still not 100% understood. Altered adipokines and hypothalamic pituitary axis changes at play?
@DaveKeto@DrPaulMason Agree completely..I can give more details through email if you're interested. There's a long detailed history. Again, I recognize that mine case is an exception, not the rule. I do find similar reports from others in the lean (appearance) metabolic syndrome phenotype though.
@DaveKeto@DrPaulMason Dave, you might find my results interesting..LCHF improves my LDL-p and remnants but trigs somehow stay over 500. On low fat, trigs plummet, HDL rises and LDL-p and remnants double. I have an acquired lipodystrophy-like condition caused by total body radiation age 7 for AML.
@tednaiman@FatEmperor 2/2 have metabolic syndrome that has worsened with LCHF and keto that include exercise and fasting (triglycerides remain over 500, blood sugar worsens on keto). I know I'm an exception due to my hx, but low fat is the only solution that has corrected trigs and hyperglycemia.
@tednaiman@FatEmperor 1/2: I had total body radiation as child for AML. I've had subcutaneous fat cells harvested for a study at Rockefeller University in NYC to try to determine the explanation for long term survivors like me having a near guarantee of developing metabolic syndrome. I am very lean &
@foundmyfitness It is one thing to have limited understanding (which we know is true), but it's another to still speak authoritatively on the subject because they think they are entitled to.
@Eric_J_Diaz @kevinnbass@Twitter You might find my health hx interesting. I'm part of a study looking directly at my adipocytes to determine types and degrees of alterations to them believed to be caused by high dose full body radiation. 42, lean, childhood AML, severe lipid abnormalities, not genetic. MI at 39.
It took us 5 years to write our books about finding the best chocolate shops in NYC. We didn't use our phones for any part of it. I'll trade in my phone for a notepad so that I can write the sequel. #nophoneforayear#contest
It'll take me about a year to chop these logs into firewood.. And since I had the tree removal guys drop these off, my wife isn't speaking to me ( and probably won't be be for about a year). Who needs a phone? #nophoneforayear#contest
In 42 years, I've survived 5 different types of cancer, a heart attack and radiation poisoning. I'm wagering that I can survive one year without my phone! Just don't ask me to give up chocolate! #nophoneforayear#contest
