For those still unwilling to recognize that MAGA is pursuing authoritarian governance, JVL has a nice summary intro in an excellent argument abt one of the thousands of examples. /1
This is sickening. There is absolutely no reason for the officer to get violent with this woman. THIS, THIS, THIS is what these ICE thugs are doing, at Noem's instigation.
One of the things I was trying to get at here is that the cost of a "papers please" society is not "people get deported," it's "we increase the danger of general society because the penalty of perceived noncompliance with a massive influx of amateurish pseudo-cops is death."
.@Timodc on JD Vance's comments about Renée Good: "He paints her as an enemy...as a domestic foe, he lies about her, he shows no sympathy towards her. And, and he does so in a lecturing, condescending, smarmy way... It's totally, totally sick, and I find him to be repulsive."
If Congress had the slightest courage or self-respect, they’d launch oversight hearings of these allegations. If the allegations are false or overstated they’d be helping the administration and the country by clearing the air. If they are found to be true, and part of administration policy, impeachment proceedings of those responsible should be launched.
But not caring either way and doing nothing is flatly a violation of their oaths. The GOP controlled Congress is simply derelict.
The Trump admin is systematically lying to federal courts. The lies are being exposed, but not before they do immense damage in the court of public opinion (MAGA believes the lies -- which are often trumpeted across right-wing media -- and doesn't know about the debunking) and to the reputation and long-term effectiveness of the DOJ.
Arnold Schwarzenegger: "We're talking here about saving democracy."
He suggested a "Save the Democracy Act" with three main elements: Make Election Day a holiday. Have independent redistricting commissions in each state. Voter ID.
I agree completely w/ @BasedMikeLee, no decent person should mock an elderly person falling, but that is just one of thousands of things Mike Lee has done showing that he is a disgrace to himself, his family & to the great people of Utah & the LDS church.
No decent person—any certainly no conservative person—should mock an 83-year-old’s fall
That was heartbreaking, and the thought of anyone finding it amusing is hard to fathom
He first threatened sanctions on Jan 19 if Russia didn’t cease fire. He has threatened to impose them many times since then. It is now Oct 17. He has done nothing.
I hope that most Americans see this type of rhetoric by high lvl MAGA/GOP/WH leaders for what it is: Evil propaganda that strikes at the heart of American ideals & threatens our future. All patriots must call out this craven abuse of power.
McClain: This weekend we'll see mobs of radicals at the, hate America rally. You'll see them across the country. When you see those images, remember this, this is who Democrats are fighting for. Not you. Not our troops. Not the hardworking moms.
On NPR, @elliotcwilliams says Bolton’s indictment looks more “serious” than others. But “two things can be true”—that prosecutors framed a damning indictment, and that Trump “injected himself impermissibly.”
At the WSJ, the editorial board has no doubt why Bolton was targeted.
Per Churchill's quip abt Democracy, Capitalism is the worst economic system, except for all the others that've been tried. But just like Democracy, capitalism IRL runs a broad spectrum of how well it effectively & equitably serves the public. https://t.co/RrSU3BeJ67!
Mark Cuban: "Kids don’t like capitalism" and blamed social media "rage bait" for it.
Then he and Andrew Ross Sorkin said promises like Zohran Mamdani's, "free housing, free transportation, cheaper groceries" sound good but don’t work: "People are going to be in for a surprise."
Chris Miller on Fox News: I "absolutely" told the Jan 6 committee under oath that Donald Trump made an order to deploy the National Guard ahead of Jan 6
Miller Under Oath: "I was never given any direction or order or knew of any plans of that nature."
Q: In 2018, Trump imposed 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum. Two years later, there were 1,000 more steel workers and 75,000 fewer manufacturing workers in the sectors dependent on steel
PETER NAVARRO: I dispute those facts
Q: That's a Ball State study
NAVARRO: I'm not sure what you're doing here
Arnold Schwarzenegger: I'm a traditional Republican… like Lincoln who ended slavery…The party has changed. That doesn't mean we have to change. We have to fight to get the party back.
