English professor UNL, opinions my own.
@JasonNark@Garrett_A_Hogan@nytimes I did get a decent latte in Loup City, Nebraska, and a pup cup for my dog. But between towns (or villages) there's...grass. And cattle.
@brannoningram Why do *articles* ever use endnotes rather than footnotes? Actually, the worst is an edited collection with all the notes for every essay at the end of the volume.
@jongeeting From what I'm reading about the whole Silverliner mess, I probably rode in one of those cars from the Lehigh Valley to Philly with my Girl Scout troop in the mid 1970s to see the Liberty Bell.
@CharlotteERosen@melnickjeffrey1 Have you checked your undergrad institution on alumni access? You might be surprised. My undergrad alma mater, Smith College, provides JSTOR access for alums, e.g. Also happens to be one of those places that designates people as visiting researchers for access to e-resources.
@ProfDuff Hey, whenever I tell people who are visiting Philly they should go to PAFA, they are confused, like they think I'm talking about PMA. You should puff PAFA, especially their 19th-century collections in that glorious 19th century confection of a building.
@jongeeting So are Silverliner IV trains the standard on most lines? Haven't lived in the region since the late 90s but am moving back soon. I remember the Main Line (R5) trains being different from the then R3 I rode.
@ProfDuff Oh, man, Beiler's Donuts are the best. I can't believe I only discovered them on my 2023 trip to Philly. They leave Federal Donuts in the dust, IMHO.
