Ilaria Ramelli is surely the greatest living Patristics scholar. Other Italians have broken through the non-divide between theology and philosophy in this period but she alone has shown how nearly everything was to do with Origen, and gnosis and apocatastasis were mainline.
@ReadingReligion [continues] On p.45 I don’t “conflate” the Eucharistic bread with other Eucharistic meals. Macrina is said by Nyssen to “lend her hands in service to the liturgies” and then “prepare bread” for her mother. I never conflate the two. Fuller details on Researchgate (and my chapter!)
@ReadingReligion Many thanks to AStewart for finding Patterns of Women’s Leadership very fine. My chapter on women syzygoi (colleagues of deacons, presbyters etc.) discusses presbyteroi/presbytides as parallel in Origen (†255ca) based on the Pastoral Epistles without “confusion” with later times
