The Rironi–Naivasha–Gilgil (A8) and Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha (A8 South) roads are two strategic branches of Kenya's primary Northern Corridor, both currently undergoing a major upgrade spearheaded by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
Launched by H.E. @WilliamsRuto in November 2025, the transformative project marks a decisive intervention in one of the country's most vital transport arteries.
Originating at Rironi in Kiambu County, the two corridors diverge into separate routes across the Rift Valley, linking Nairobi to Nakuru and onward to Western Kenya. Together spanning 139 kilometres, the project is scheduled for completion by April 2027, with the 81-kilometre Rironi–Gilgil section targeted for delivery by mid-2026.
The expansion into a four- to six-lane dual carriageway is designed to ease chronic congestion, drastically reduce travel times and enhance road safety along a corridor long associated with heavy traffic and frequent accidents.
Notorious blackspots such as Salgaa and the persistent gridlocks at Rironi are set to be eliminated through modern engineering standards and improved traffic flow management.
In addition to improving mobility, the upgrade carries profound economic significance. The corridor traverses high-production agricultural zones. Improved road infrastructure will therefore facilitate faster movement of fresh produce to Nairobi and other markets, cutting post-harvest losses and strengthening farm incomes.
During construction, the project has generated thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, while prioritising the use of locally sourced materials such as sand, gravel and cement to stimulate surrounding economies.
Strategically, the enhanced highway will reinforce Kenya's position as a regional logistics hub by improving connectivity to key western transit points such as Eldoret and Malaba, thereby streamlining cargo movement to Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kenya has some of the most robust and forthright Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices in the world, which are not only independent but also progressive in the execution of their mandates. We need to respect them. Long live our motherland.
As leaders, we are expected to uphold the sanctity of our Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices without casting aspersions on their ability to deliver on their respective mandates.
Constant talk of a rigged election before the electoral process even begins is an act of cowardice, fear mongering and a sign of lack of patriotism. True democrats build an aura of confidence in their institutions, rather than create a perception of institutional decadence.
@KijanayaKabras They should benchmark with Stanley Kenga of Magarini who was once very popular until he joined DCP. He saw political dust in the just concluded by elections.
@BernardKavuli You are asking ODM to leave the government to go and look for an elusive government? This would be political madness of the highest form.
@PropesaTV Uweh! Explaining a loss is the most difficult thing for a person living in perpetual denial. UDA won the seat! Period. All parties applied their own efforts and strategies to win. 'Ruto's' efforts and strategies outwitted yours. Let's accept and move on.
@wnyakera Politics is a complex game. It is not as simplistic as you are trying to put it. If you don't believe me, just see the dust Wantam fellows saw in the just concluded by-elections. Their hype is all gone because they had over-rated themselves, just like you are doing now. Ipo kazi!
@HonMoses_Kuria And the wrong assumption the so-called united opposition is making is that all the 2,480 votes that Mbui got would go to Karish had he not contested. Who told them that? Siasa ni mahesabu
@KaguchiaMp The winning margin in Mbeere North has remained the same since the 2007 Elections. Thus, in this by-elections, UDA (Ruto) has more or less remained consistent since 2022. This has debunked the narrative peddled by the joint opposition that 'murima' is gone. You must be worried!
@MachariaNjeru Wakili what's your point here? I thought all along the argument was that 'murima' was someone's bedroom and that no one would get votes there except through him? Now you are trying to belittle the efforts of the proverbial 'David' who has silenced the 'Goliath' of murima? Sad
@NjiruAdv@RailaOdinga Wakili is trying to re-write history for political relevance sake. Truth be told, for those who care to preserve the political history of our great nation, had Raila not declared "Kibaki Tosha", Uhuru would have been President in 2002.
