@StevenMathern @David_D_Ward @bmj_latest@DrEHGordon@slavaxx There’s good evidence now that we can do a lot to (i) prevent delirium and (ii) reduce its severity. Multicomponent interventions reduce delirium incidence by 40%. Nutrition & hydration; mobilisation; sleep; pain; social interaction; vision & hearing…. Just sensible care really.
Landmark study by the AFN/@UQ_News/@Macquarie_Uni links delirium and dementia. Our analysis of over 600k patients in NSW reveals patients with delirium had a 39% higher risk of death and 3x the risk of dementia.
