Vets & politics: “When veterans bring undue attention to their service, they invite deep scrutiny of their record that they might not actually want. And when they use their military service as a political cudgel, that veteran code of respect is voided.”
The adoption of the 'foreign agents’ law', despite widespread protest and concern, undermines Georgia's democracy, jeopardises its European integration path and will harm relations with longtime friends and partners. To restore trust and progress, the law should be revoked.
🇬🇪 | It has been a very hard and stressful week in Georgia, with numerous attempts to intimidate #NoToRussianLaw protesters. Many were beaten by Russian-style titushky gangs, some were arrested at their homes. Activists along with their families received life-threatening calls from unknown numbers.
Despite all these attempts to scare protesters, large-scale marches are planned for tomorrow starting at 19:00. The marches will begin from three locations in Tbilisi:
• Republic Square
• Marjanishvili Square
• Metro 300 Aragveli
and will converge at Europe Square to protest against the Russian law and violent actions.
Georgia enters its 4th week of protests against unconstitutional Russian law and the country’s shift to Russia. Initially met w water cannons, tear gas, rubber bullets, arrests; the government now weaponizes personal repression, physical attacks, intimidation as protests persist.
