New paper in Nature. The more a government controls its domestic media, the more it dominates AI training data, the more pro-regime outputs we get from AI. By scraping the open web, LLMs are unwittingly laundering state-coordinated narratives into seemingly objective answers.
Remember everyone: transparency, commentary, criticism are the essence of any democratic society. Consider supporting the ones that challenge your thinking and engage you. Today, I'm supporting Talk Georgia on their 1 year anniversary. გილოცავ!

CUNY and Cal State campuses rank among the highest mobility schools in the country. Not because their outcomes are better than Yale's (conditional on attendance, elite schools look fine). But because they actually enroll the students for whom mobility is the whole point.

This year’s Academy Award winner for Best Documentary Feature Pavel Talankin says his Oscar statuette is missing.
The award went missing during travel. Talankin said that while departing New York, a TSA agent and a Lufthansa representative told him the Oscar could not be carried on board, so it was placed in checked luggage. When he arrived in Germany, the statuette was gone. Lufthansa says it is investigating the incident.
Pavel Talankin is a Russian schoolteacher whose film 'Mr. Nobody Against Putin' documents the indoctrination of students to support Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The film has also faced criticism for portraying Russians primarily as victims and downplaying individual or collective responsibility in the context of the war.
