Another HIV check-up completed! ✅
I’m still undetectable! 🙏
Undetectable equals Untransmittable aka U=U (no risk to sexual partners as long as medication is taken to maintain undetectable viral load) 🩸
One pill a day keeps me alive and kicking! 💊
40 years ago, on 25 May 1986, the UK's first AIDS vigil took place in Trafalgar Square to remember those lost much too soon.
Today, we've lit a candle to remember everyone lost to HIV and mark that special event in London four decades ago where communities joined together.
APPG members @DavidMundellDCT, Lord Fowler & @LizBarkerLords met with @WByanyima Executive Director of @UNAIDS to discuss the global HIV & AIDS response and how the UK can strengthen its support.
Strong UK leadership remains vital to ending AIDS as a public health threat. 🌍
It was the honour of my life to move the Loyal Address -the first Muslim to do so.
This moment belongs to the people of Bradford West. Their trust and faith in me made it possible.
An opportunity of a lifetime. A privilege I owe to Bradford and to Britain.

📢 Publication announcement
WHO updated its treatment guidelines, a 5-year project (2021-2026).
The gap between those recommendations and what happens at the bedside is where patients are lost.
New editorial in @STI_BMJ, co-authored with Daniel McCartney, Teodora Wi, Francis Ndowa, and Magnus Unemo:
- Syndromic management updated for settings with limited lab capacity
- First-line regimens for gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, and anogenital warts have been updated to reflect antimicrobial resistance patterns that have outpaced previous protocols.
- Syphilis self-testing is now part of WHO guidance, a direct tool to cut congenital syphilis transmission.
Implementation is the bottleneck.
👉 Translating these into clinical practice is the next step.

- Congenital syphilis should NOT be occuring
- Modifying approaches in syphilis testing in pregnancy and postnatally may identify previously missed cases
- Repeat syphilis testing in pregnancy is currently being re-reviewed for cost-effectiveness. #BHIVABASHH26
Congenital syphilis is rising with poor infant outcomes. Late booking + low antenatal care engagement drive risk, and many cases occur after a negative screen. We need better education, repeat testing awareness and targeted strategies 🚨#BASHHBHIVA26
