maybe i'm midcurving, but i don't understand pearl-2:native as an investment.
don't get me wrong, i loved the idea of proof of useful work when i first heard about it, and i still do. @prlnet is innovative tech. i just don't see it as an investment.
it has:
> no cash flow to holders today, so for now the case is monetary like BTC. but BTC's supply grows ~0.8%/yr. PRL's circulating supply grows ~90% over the next year
> at $1.35, that's ~$1.4M/day of new supply going to miners who have GPU and power bills to pay, against $2 - 6M of daily volume
> AI customers pay for inference in USD, not PRL, so the useful work doesn't create demand for the token
> no moat yet. nothing stops someone from forking bitcoin and swapping in their own proof of useful work for AI compute. BTC's moat is 17 years of network effects, PRL is 5 months old
> only ~16% of the 2.1B supply has been mined, so a ~$455M mcap is a ~$2.8B FDV
> all spot volume is on two small exchanges (SafeTrade and BigONE) with ~$35k of bids within 2% of the price
so if you're trading the narrative short term, i get it. but fundamentally the tokenomics are unsustainable.
Also - its easy to have conviction when things are going up ... and easy to get bearish when things are nuking. How many people turned bearish on $ZEC during its nuke because of some unintelligble FUD. Likewise so many people are bearish semiconductors because price went down. lmao
Right when everyone became bearish on memory - i was telling you that the companies themselves would be the next buyer of memory stock. I have no paid service. All my posts are free. But i will be locking my account soon because i am tired of responding to trolls. Drop me a follow if my posts have helped you!
China's CXMT Plays Hardball — Strengthening Samsung and SK's DRAM Bargaining Power
Apple, which had recently been evaluating China's Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) as a new supply-chain source in a bid to cut costs, is understood to be struggling in negotiations to secure further price reductions. Paradoxically, with the cheap-Chinese-component workaround now blocked, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix have been relieved of the burden of shipping commodity DRAM and are concentrating their production lines on high-value AI memory such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM) — creating a market dynamic in which they now hold complete control over global memory pricing power.
◆ "More expensive than Samsung" — CXMT rebuffs Apple as DRAM market leadership flips
According to semiconductor industry sources on the 5th, Apple recently negotiated with CXMT over supply pricing for mobile DRAM including LPDDR5X, seeking to ease manufacturing cost pressure on its next iPhone and smart-device lineups, but was reportedly refused a price cut. CXMT instead held firm at prices equal to or higher than those quoted by Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. In effect, Apple — long a byword for buying power in the finished-goods market — has been stonewalled by a component supplier's hardball pricing.
Behind CXMT's willingness to flatly reject Apple's demands is the wholesale volume sweep by Chinese IT giants such as Huawei and Xiaomi. With Washington's semiconductor sanctions on China still in force, Chinese device makers pursuing domestic self-sufficiency have locked up CXMT's DRAM output in advance through high-priced long-term contracts — leaving CXMT with no reason to bend to an Apple that demands both exacting quality qualification and lower prices. Analysts say the solid captive demand of China's domestic market is providing CXMT with a powerful pricing shield.
The "cross-diversification into cheap Chinese components" playbook favored by Apple and other global device giants for beating down component prices has been rendered useless amid the commodity DRAM shortage. Finished-goods divisions have historically deliberately dangled Chinese panels or memory as bait to pressure affiliates and incumbent suppliers, thereby seizing the upper hand in annual pricing contracts. But as the supply-demand imbalance across the memory market accelerates, the balance of power is seen as having shifted decisively from set makers to memory manufacturers.
◆ Big Tech's cheap workaround closes — the shortage spreads to commodity DRAM
This phenomenon is read as a knock-on effect of the sharp drop in absolute capacity for commodity DRAM (DDR5, LPDDR5X) caused by the buildout of HBM-dedicated production lines throughout the first half. As major memory makers cut wafer input for commodity DRAM and concentrated on HBM packaging processes to meet demand from next-generation AI servers and accelerators, even commodity DRAM prices have surged, entrenching the "memflation" phenomenon. With Chinese memory makers — once viewed as the alternative — now demanding full price as well, Big Tech has lost its detour around rising costs.
The market's read is that this episode is feeding a virtuous cycle delivering record practical windfalls to Korean semiconductor giants Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. Because CXMT is absorbing large volumes of China-focused commodity DRAM, Korean firms have been fully freed from the shipment pressure of clearing low-priced commodity volume and from the associated price-decline risk.
Into the space vacated by commodity DRAM oversupply fears, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are aggressively pushing forward ultra-high-value AI memory lineups such as HBM4, LPCAMM2 and eSSD. Having reengineered their product mix toward high-value products, the two now hold unrivaled pricing power heading into second-half long-term pricing negotiations with global Big Tech.
"An unusual situation has emerged in which CXMT is holding the price floor and thereby firmly underpinning commodity DRAM pricing as well," one industry official said. "With the commodity DRAM floor intact and Samsung and SK hynix monopolizing leadership in high-value AI memory like HBM4, operating margins and global market control for Korea's semiconductor camp should rise all the more steeply in the second half."
I've monitored the situation for you.
TLDR on hyperscaler capex spend (signal aside from $TSM).
From $MSFT, $AMZN, $META earnings:
Upstream semi supply chains go brrr.
$META: 2026 FY capex $115-$135B
Revised Q1 ER: $125B-$145B capex raised.
-> Higher component prices (price hikes)
-> Aggressive AI infra spending
-> Custom Model Training
$MSFT: was actually $31.9B vs ($35.29B) but due to supply chain bottlenecks, rather than lack of resources.
Still waiting for confirmation around $AMZN but their original capex projection was ~$200B from Jassy's note earlier this year.
So you can sleep easy, all the semi supply chain names still likely to keep going brr next quarter, since there's so much capex funneled into them.
Then you get the new fed chair who is gung-ho all in on AI + rate cuts, with Jerome keeping stuff chill in the back (which markets probably like)
So let me start. DeFi is the future of the World Financial System. That's my belief, and this is why we are here.
This amount of absolutely preventable hacks we see in DeFi (with root causes attributable to CENTRALIZED points of failure) is enormous recently. This damages out industry, and I build for this industry. So I cannot remain silent.
Imagine an average grandma (mass adoption is here?) putting her life savings on Aave. And then BOOM, she cannot withdraw her funds on Monday. Aave (the biggest DeFi protocol btw) said it's operating as intended - just rsETH got exploited. rsETH said that all code is safu - just LayerZero bridge got hacked. LayerZero (the biggest bridge securing quarter of a trillion $) said that everything operating as intended. Yet, she cannot withdraw here funds. WTF? Are we industry of clowns?
But here's the thing. All issues like this should be prevented BEFORE they happen, not AFTER. Number of single points of failure should be reduced, not increased. When these points of failure are unavoidable - trust should be split. If there's a reliance on infrastructure - we should share best practices how to configure it. Not to mention that code should be very well checked - everyone gets that already.
We should probably come together and develop safety standards for DeFi. How to build safely, and how to verify safety. Probably everyone should bring their best practices, and the projects, auditors and risk assessment groups should know them. Maybe we need @ethereumfndn and @SolanaFndn bringing all the ecosystem projects to participate and come up with principles, rules and recommendations of safe building. And, perhaps, we can even learn something about protecting the few remaining centralized points of failure from traditional finance who have many more of those.
DeFi will win
A Bloomberg Terminal costs $24,000 a year. Someone just recreated one using Perplexity Computer for $200 a month.
Bloomberg's moat was never the data, that's increasingly commoditized. It was the interface: thousands of keyboard shortcuts, proprietary screens, and muscle memory that finance professionals spent years learning. The switching cost wasn't price, it was retraining.
AI agents collapse that moat. If Computer can replicate the interface and pull equivalent data from public sources, the only remaining lock-in is the chat network and real-time feeds. One is a social product. The other is a licensing negotiation.
Bloomberg did $12.6 billion in revenue last year selling terminals. The first credible open-source alternative just got built in an afternoon.
While @yieldbasis upcoming HybridVaults will take away more pressure on crvUSD than the pools produce, the "normal" pools do affect the peg when imbalanced.
I propose a vote which will, essenially, make it not possible to "deposit the dip" when BTC goes down - we'll scale YB via different means!
