How do you know your sect is correct?
You’ve had authentic experiences w/ scripture, revelation, visions, dreams, NDEs, spiritual gifts, indescribable peace & joy, sermons (reverent and guided by Spirit), nature, art, music, miracles, healing, angels, even demons
But the sect?
@Broxecutor@RoughStoneTroll I’ve seen people cite it as part of why they left LDS, so it does have a negative impact I’d say. Personally I think it’s a misinterpretation that contradicts revealed scripture
@blue621@KaiSchwemmer@michaeljknowles “Crazy info” mentioned:
- True
- Technically true but ambiguous*
- Technically true
- “Literal” spirit children true, sexual relations not explicitly taught
- Technically true but ambiguous*
*Could imply “infinite regress” which is not explicitly taught

@sourpatchlyds Comparing the Church to a dictatorship is something else…
Is this attitude not comparable to views towards Samaritans? Framing sincerely mistaken beliefs and worship as an evil facade is not what Jesus did
I’ve followed you for a while, this is disappointing
So demonic it produces resilient families w/ focus on ancestry + very low divorce rates → most charitable + pro-social Americans w/ every measurable facet of life improved + celebrate the truth found in every religion, on top of worldwide self-reliance programs + disaster relief
@ill_Scholar This starts with the assumption JS Jr authored it when the inference to the best explanation is it was not

@Apologetics941@R3L3VANTTRUTH With the amount of scholarship available now there’s no excuse for not steel-manning the Restoration (obviously there’s nuance + plenty of other issues)

@CrankyFed Joseph Smith Jr. was found guilty of “glasslooking”
This claim comes decades later, contradicted by 4 *antagonistic* sources + Oliver Cowdery (known by non-members for being honest) + the guy who hired him. While JS Jr used stones, fraud is unsupported

@PelopeAl41549 Jokes aside, before concluding a hopelessly deluded person believes something, therefore it’s fake (genetic fallacy), consider the possibility of a child of God struggling with their identity seeking Him
@allred_alma@justin_hart Jerry Grover suggests the Nephites practiced punning across languages, where a name or term could hold meaningful definitions in Sumerian, Egyptian, and Hebrew

@LoneStarMattie@CBHeresy@Darthjimscott41@KaiSchwemmer@michaeljknowles The other articles thoroughly undermine claims of con artistry. Did Joseph screw up? Sure. Intentional thievery? Unlikely.
Besides, the religion has demonstrable good outcomes, including for minorities. Not to be that guy but take Jesus’ teachings seriously regarding fruits
@bigredmatt1011@KaiSchwemmer@michaeljknowles I assume you may be referring to deification, which both the NT + church fathers taught. Plurality of gods is also biblical, look up the divine council. However, an “infinite regress” of gods is not explicitly taught even in the KFD + sermon in the grove

@DRRomanosDaniel@jaredadairbell This is a misinterpretation. The Father has always been God but temporarily became a mortal like Jesus: https://t.co/uiLIJc6gAS

@CBHeresy@KaiSchwemmer@michaeljknowles Come on dude, divination using stones is biblical, 19 extant witnesses described the plates so consistently we can literally reconstruct the alloy, God cares about nations other than Israel that’s crazy 🤯

@AP5161465041727@LukeFHan@RealMattFradd If you can’t steel-man the actual arguments, do more research. They simply apply non-LDS resources, on top of publishing in fields like biblical studies such as Stephen Smoot in Brill

@BowieTheus@ThoughtfulSaint The Restoration, namely the testimonies of the Three & Eight (following the law of witnesses cited by Jesus), demonstrates the canonization process was incomplete and the promises applied to the apostles in their lifetimes
