The event was part of a larger program aimed at ensuring universities and research institutes implement effective non-proliferation controls while also balancing this with academic freedoms. Clear follow-up actions were agreed including further international and regional events.

On 3 Dec, the US blacklisted 6 vessels operated by the Venezuelan company Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. : Icaro, Luisa Caceres de Arismendi, Manela Saenz, Paramaconi, Terepaima and Yare. This brings the number of Venezuelan vessels designated by the OFAC to 47.
