On 3 June 2026, @UNIDIR, together with the Government of Canada, UNLIREC and UN Women, will host a side event at BMS9 exploring how stronger linkages between small arms and light weapons (SALW) control and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda can contribute to more effective and inclusive responses to armed violence.

๐ Ninth Biennial Meeting of States (BMS9) to the United Nations Programme of Action (UN PoA) on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW)
This week, States are gathering at the United Nations for BMS9, a key milestone in the implementation of the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
๐ The UN PoA provides a global framework through which States work together to address the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, including firearms, by improving national regulations, strengthening stockpile management, ensuring that weapons are properly marked, and enhancing cooperation in weapons tracing.
BMS9 will review progress made and discuss key challenges and opportunities related to the implementation of the Programme of Action and the International Tracing Instrument at the national, regional, and global levels.
