June is Seniors Month. Seniors are nearly twice as likely to need the assistance of a food bank on a long-term basis compared to adults under 65. Food bank data shows an increase of 21% in the proportion of visitors citing "Old Age Pension" as their primary source of income.

Social assistance recipients are still experiencing an even larger gap between the income they receive and their essential living costs. In 2022, ODSP recipients fell $832 below the poverty line, and OW recipients face an even greater $1,327 shortfall.
