I’ve spent more than two decades publicly challenging AIPAC. Its politics deserve tough scrutiny.
What they don’t justify is demonization.
Calling AIPAC “monsters,” calling J Street a “cancer,” or branding critics of Israeli policy as antisemites all follow the same dangerous logic of replacing argument with dehumanization.
My latest column is about why we have to hold that line.

Governor Josh Shapiro’s house was burnt down.
Congressional candidate Scott Weiner was harassed until he left a Pride March.
Representative Jared Moskowitz received hateful voicemails threatening to kill all Jews.
Representative Dan Goldman was banned from a coffee shop and his office was vandalized.
Harassing and attacking Jewish lawmakers is an attempt to push Jews out of public life.
That is not criticism of Israel. It is the end of a free society.
Ro Khanna endorsed Tom Steyer for California Governor.
Steyer is a billionaire whose company invested in fossil fuels and who spent 100s of mils meddling in races, the exact thing Ro pretends to oppose.
Big money is ok as long as it's my friends. When it's the Jews, though...
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY), in concession speech: “Jews have given back so much to this country. As history has taught us, antisemitic tropes and stereotypes, some of which I heard personally on this campaign, will ultimately be the undoing of our democracy if we all don’t lean in and speak out — even if it’s not politically expedient.”
It may only last 60 days (I doubt it; likely would become permanent), but the US Treasury’s waiver is effectively rolling back 40-year plus of American oil sanctions against Iran.
Even US refiners are allowed to import Iranian oil and pay for it in greenback!!!
“Monsters.” “Dark money.” A hidden hand “turning us against one another.”
Swap “AIPAC” for “Jews” and it’s the oldest antisemitic conspiracy theory in the books. That’s not criticizing a lobby. That’s laundering antisemitism from your podium as Mayor of a city with more than a million Jews. This bullshit is dangerous.
If you want to talk about real monsters let’s start with the North Koreans, Russians, Sudanese, the Iranian regime, and their proxies — Hamas, Hezbollah, PIJ — and other terrorist groups who’ve killed scores of Americans.
Antizionism is not a gateway drug to antisemitism. It does not cross the line into antisemitism. It does not "drive" antisemitism. Antizionism does not "become" hate.
Antizionism is its own way of constructing, imagining, and stigmatizing Jews. Antizionists imagine Jews as "Zionists": white colonizers, Jewish supremacists, and supporters of genocide. Antizionism has its own set of tropes, libels, and stereotypes through which it denigrates Jews and marks them for violence, just as classical antisemitism has its own set of tropes, libels, and stereotypes through which it denigrates Jews and marks them for violence.
It is not necessary to grant antizionism any space of permissibility.
Antizionism is a hate movement.
I'm pleased to share an essay I wrote for @TheAtlantic.
As a left-wing Jew who supports universal human rights, I argue that opposition to antizionism flows from those values. For more than a century, antizionism has justified the erasure of Jewish life, the expulsion of Jews, and violence and discrimination against those marked as "Zionists."
The Democratic Party—and all people of conscience—should condemn it.

The Reflecting Pool is a fitting metaphor for Donald Trump’s presidency.
Trump ran for office promising to “drain the swamp.”
Instead, he became the swamp.
Iran is the largest state sponsor of terror in the world. It is appalling that a U.S. President would ever endorse them having such deadly weapons to perpetuate further attacks on Americans and our allies in the region.
Trump: The United States is committed to PEACE…The Markets are loving what is happening with Oil Prices way down, and Stocks way up. We expect a complete Ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Israel
JD Vance comes out in support of Iran's right of self-defense and right to have ballistic missiles: "Israel doesn't give up the right of self-defense if Hezbollah fires rockets or drones at Israel. The Iranians don't give up the right of self-defense in their country."
