As per the latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), the prevalence of diarrhoea in the two weeks preceding the survey among children below age 5 years was 7% in India.

Across India, there is a knowledge-practice gap around ORS. Even though 94 percent women have knowledge of ORS, only 68 percent children were given oral rehydration (with ORS, gruel or other fluids).
