A tale of two governors.

Both were young in 1999 and in their 40s when they became governors. They also had young friends who loved to party and surrounded themselves with those guys. They were, however, as different as night is from day.

One came from wealth and was practically anointed governor and expected to be, while the other had hustled his way up there and was shocked when he won the election. The only thing they had in common was an abundance of corrupt people around them, as they were from the same political party.

I always watched both of them very closely. One was truly charismatic and loved being governor, while for the other, it was a chore. He just wanted to enjoy life. I remember a meeting we had arranged for over a month with a federal regulator, and after waiting for hours, at the last minute, they told us that the governor was indisposed and couldn't make it. As we were leaving Government House, we saw him playing football with his guys. He wasn't making money from the meeting and wasn't interested.

The other governor, on the other hand, was so interested in a technology implementation in his state, even though he knew little about tech at the time, that he was there for initial meetings and even asked for fast broadband internet access to the entire Government House to also be included as part of the proposal. He wanted to move forward.

I also listened to conversations they both had with friends. The poor background guy was typically animated and went in-depth into back-and-forth contemporary political arguments with his guys while the rich dude was worshipped by his cronies and they only discussed very mundane things.

They both loved the ladies but they had different approaches to it. The hood guy went for quality and was extremely generous while the rich guy went of quantity and it was like an assembly line. He didn't give a shit about any of the people. His priority was his pleasure. He didn't really care about people.

The saddest part was that the rich guy was the darling of his party as they made a lot more from him. He almost bankrupted the state for them and his family. The hood guy fought his party members who were looting his state and the country and made enemies at home and away because of his ambition.

One evening, both of them were in the same place and the party leadership conversation came up. Hood guy was very vocal while rich guy was quiet. Hood guy was trying to solve a particular resource problem that would benefit everyone including the rich guy, but rich guy couldn't be bothered.

Today, hood guy is seen as the bigger villain because of mistakes made by those around him that he tried to empower, and still active politically, but the rich guy is quietly enjoying his wealth and not at all involved in politics.

Both of them made me hate Nigerian politics and swear to be out of it. It is very messy and nobody really wins in the end.

The reason why this may not happen in the nearest days is because, the lifestyle that comes with the music industry is one many people from well to do family would can not deal with. Secondly, your audience can't be primarily Nigerians- Zero home advantage

With the current valuations of tech companies being more than traditional companies. Telling which company is bigger now favours Tech companies. Just like in the movie "succession", Gojo can end up buying waystar instead of the other way around😀.

An acquisition happens when a bigger or richer company outright buys a smaller one, paying extra money (a premium) to take total control. A merger is supposed to be two companies coming together as equal partners to form a single new business.

However, most business analysts/investors say a true "Merger of Equals" doesn't actually exists, it is mostly a public relations trick.

It lets the company being bought save face and avoids paying extra money to shareholders. In reality, one company always takes charge: accounting rules require picking just one legal buyer, and one CEO, culture, and management style inevitably takes over.
