i will always tell the younger generation the truth: poverty is far more damaging than most people understand.

if a sibling falls critically ill and the entire family still can’t raise enough money for treatment or surgery, that’s a reality you cannot ignore. i’ve also heard of people who secured life changing opportunities abroad, even free visas or contracts but lost em cos they couldn’t afford the flight ticket and their family couldn’t support.

if deep down you know this could be your reality or fate, make it your mission to break that cycle.

there should be days you need to go totally offline, switch off your phone, ignore distractions and focus completely on becoming better than you were yesterday. the consequences of being a young man without money or a strong support system can be brutal. that’s why, while you’re still coming up, treat your growth like a responsibility, not an option.

My friend(3rd party), a farmer, married decided to relocate to the UK in Jan /Feb 2023. Had his wife listed as dependant against everyone's advice.

Everyone who knew the dynamics of their marriage felt he should have dissolved the union let alone spend the extra money to bring his wife along to the UK.

Denies him sex regularly, 3 years of marriage but no child and refused to complete ivf treatment, she never listens to the husband unless her pastor in ibadan ascents to it.

Oh about the pastor and ibadan, she only relocated to ilesa after 8 months of marriage and pressure from both families, she said she couldn't change church.

Long story short, she joined him in the UK, (I don't want to talk about how she disposed household items lol). They continued to have niggles which persisted. I advised his friend who is our mutual to tell him to remove her from the visa so he could focus on his life and studies in the UK, he refused. Bro graduated and they did post study, believing he's still married to his wife.

Apparently wife got COS at her job, quietly applied for work visa without listing her husband as dependant (at this moment it still remains my theory and assumption based on what I suspect must have been), upon expiry of the graduate visa, our friend is back home, but without his wife who miraculously has continued to work and enjoy residency in the UK.

I should feel sorry for him, but I don't.

Men need to be as ruthless as women when making life decision..
