📯📯📯Paper Alert 🚨
Honoured to be a part of @rki_de’s status report on #climatechange and #health. Our #mentalhealth is at risk, due to heat, extreme weather events, and an awareness for the existential threat we’re facing. 🧶1/3

„What people needed from the media was above all an honest portrayal of the facts, said Lea Dohm, a psychologist and co-founder of the German climate action group @Psychologists4F.“

Image description: Young girl showing a newspaper to an adult. Adult says accusingly: "How about if your generation spends less time studying how my generation destroyed the environment, and m o r e time figuring out a magical solution?"
if you aren’t careful you’ll let social media and the news make you believe life ain’t beautiful and that people arent doin miraculous things every day to help, heal, transform, and shift society.
“... utopian visions of how to build a different future often follow moments of great social upheaval. Ordinary people find themselves unmoored from the realities they want to believe to be fixed and immutable—”the order of things” is disturbed... (1/2)
„How we manage this global crisis, and how humanely we treat each other as we migrate, will be key to whether this century of upheaval proceeds smoothly or with violent conflict and unnecessary deaths.(…) Migration is our way out of this crisis.“

„I often hear people ask, “Why should I deprive myself of X pleasure or Y entitlement, when it won’t really make any difference?” Such a narrow focus on individual impact reveals how much the myth of individualism constricts us.“ https://t.co/qN0gXSIn3z
💬 Dr Patrick Hart, 37, a GP from Bristol, who took part in the action, said:
“I am doing this because it’s my duty as a doctor. The climate crisis is the greatest health crisis humanity has ever faced. People are dying now and more will die every day unless we stop new oil, gas and coal.”
“In the same way the tobacco companies lied to us that tobacco was safe, the scrum of fossil fuel companies and corrupt politicians have been lying to us. They are keeping us addicted to fossil fuels, even though they know it’s killing us. I am not prepared to let them get away with mass murder.
We are ordinary people. We are the doctors and nurses who care for you when you are sick. I call on everyone to come and join us in the streets and be on the right side of history.”

Big Oil is successfully manipulating the way we think about climate change. Instead of focusing on stopping the burning of fossil fuels, public attention revolves around individual carbon footprints or carbon sequestration.

Are we reaching a critical social tipping point? “perhaps more so than any other generation currently practising law, this generation highly values social justice and altruism”.
@julia_asbrand at #dpk2023: therapist are mostly reflected, still we also have unconscious biases (re race, gender, SES background...). Specific person groups are more affected by crises but are not reached by therapy offers.
Can you spot the @GlobalPsyFuture logo 👀?
The global network we are part of is represented at the Planetary Health Hub along with other health professionals in London this weekend. Exciting! #TheBigOne@XRPsychologists@ClimatePsychol @ClimateNa

At #TheBigOne in London health professionals joined forces today to demand action, no matter if physiology, psychology, public health - we stand together because health protection equals climate protection @xrpsychologists
„One of the things people find helpful is participation, activism and connection with other people, (…) when you are connected to other people, (…) that feeling there is something wrong with you for feeling this way, dissipates because you feel you are making a difference.”
„Morgan says more young people are “understandably” reporting an impact on their mental health because the climate crisis is going to affect them“
