The best part about UMAD is you can describe literally anything going on in that raid and no one knows if you made it up or if thats a mechanic

This is exactly the same take I’ve also always had with 16.
The game is one of the most unapologetic representations of an FF narrative, the influences from FF1-5, especially, are all over it.
It’s if those games were made in the modern day but with a cinematic presentation.
My initial impressions regarding the news of Steel Ball Run airing weekly (split-cour):
1. This release format is probably the best-case scenario for the JoJo anime to maintain a high level of quality *and* appease fans who wish for the series to release in a consistent manner.
Of course, a completely weekly release would've been the most engaging one discussion wise, but it would either require compromise on episode quality or delay the series as a whole to 2028-2029.
2. I've seen people bring up how parts 4 and 5 aired weekly without issue, but I don't think the current situation is comparable to back then. First, part 5 had to go on three separate unplanned breaks due to how bad production had gotten behind the scenes by the last third of the series, with the final episodes looking pretty rough compared to earlier ones. Second, SBR is probably the most challenging JoJo part to adapt since Stardust Crusaders, with episode 1 of SBR having three times the number of key frames than normal. This demonstrates just how much of a challenge adapting this part is, and why it's not a similar situation to previous seasons.
3. I believe the "2nd STAGE" marketing isn't literally referring to just stage 2 of the race, as that would mean airing 3-4 episodes weekly and then stopping lol. Netflix specifying SBR releases as a "split-cour" means a similar situation to BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. Airing 10-12 episodes weekly, then going on hiatus for a few months, and repeat. If I had to guess, this "2nd STAGE" will probably end after the Man's World (Ringo) arc of the story.
4. Like I originally thought (and wrote), the ones responsible for the release format itself are the production committee for the JoJo anime (mainly Shueisha and Warner Bros. but also Klockworx and Medicos). This, of course, doesn't rid Netflix of the blame for the botched job they've done marketing the series, but it does imply their hand was somewhat forced by executives from Warner Bros. to release the show the way they do.
Next time a debacle like this happens, it'll probably be easier and better to just complain to Warner and Shueisha directly through the relevant channels of communication to avoid the mess we've had in the past 2 weeks repeating itself.
5. I'd like to believe this big gap between episode 1 and future episodes will be an exception/anomaly regarding future breaks, with the next cour of SBR airing 3-4 months after the first one instead of the 6-8 months we have to wait right now. I do think Netflix should've released this episode 1 in June to make the wait shorter, but it is what it is.
6. Lastly, I'm generally pretty confused as to why Netflix and Warner didn't just announce this information back in Anime Expo to appease the fanbase from the start. That is, if this WAS the original broadcast plan and not a last-minute change behind the scenes due to the backlash.
I'm looking forward to more SBR episodes in Fall 2026 (October-December) and to avoid any more trouble like this until the season ends. 🥲
@FryGalPal Yea the transparency really bugs me. I heard they had episode one for Part 6 also be early but it was nothing like this gap. Absolutely insane. Just delay the show! It’s okay! I’ll wait! I just want the story to be together cohesively and properly
