I recently returned from the Maha Kumbh and want to share my observations. Setting aside the spiritual significance, let’s focus purely on the experience from a practical standpoint.

The VVIP Experience:

- Fly via chartered plane to Prayagraj Airport.
- Take a helicopter to a special helipad.
- A 2-minute drive to the VVIP ghat.
- A 2-minute boat ride to Triveni Sangam for a dip and photo session.
- Return via helicopter and chartered plane.

The Common Man’s Experience:

- Travel by road, facing endless traffic jams, or by train, where delays can stretch up to 20 hours.
- Walk 15 km through an overcrowded, near-stampede situation with constant dust, pollution and vehicular congestion.
- Take a dip and then prepare for the exhausting journey back.

If You have Money:

- Prefer Flights
- You can minimize some of the walking by paying exorbitant rates for bikes, autos, or taxis.
- Expect additional, often arbitrary, extra charges.
- Take the boat for a dip in somewhat cleaner waters.

Accommodation & Food:

- Basic accommodation costs as much as a five-star hotel.
- Bring your own food and water for the entire journey.
- Restaurant and road side food quality is highly questionable, with prices inflated by 3 to 5 times the usual rates.

Physical & Mental Toll:

- Prepare for at least three days of extreme physical and mental exhaustion.

Health & Safety:

- No visible medical camps or ambulances along the route or at the ghats.
- Unusable public conveniences

Police Presence:

- Primarily focused on facilitating VIP movement.
- Crowd management is secondary and only enforced in select locations.

The Crowd:

- No Civic Sense
- No Traffic Sense

The Local Businesses:

- Taking advantage of your situation, their goal is to extract as much money as possible from you.

Corruption and VIP culture is evidently visible throughout.

In summary, the entire event is purely focused on making the experience enjoyable for VVIP population only.
