No, there is still no standardized definition of “submachine gun”, calling them “automatic pistol caliber carbines” is goofy. The chicken came first. Many western countries don’t even use the term “submachine gun”.
The Russians literally doctrinally state the AKS-74u is a submachine gun. They even developed a leg holster for them.
@fallingrafters@Dayscarr My mind never wanted to wall run in Black Ops 2, the frustration wasn’t there because I didn’t know it’d happen one day. You see it as restricting the game, I see it as deleting the fluff. The current movement is just add ons to the baseline..
@willyLpierce@Triaged2@DocStrangelove2 While it seems that just changing the barrel and bolt would suffice, the upper receiver itself still takes a beating and would likely need reinforced further.
Submachine guns are just too loosely defined, and our interpretation of pistol/carbine/rifle is, generally speaking, skewed by the NFA. We’re conditioned to believe a submachine gun had to be a pistol cartridge and a short barrel but that’s just not universal.
The US military considers the M4 or MK18s both as carbines. The Soviets/Russians (maybe the entire Bloc) considered the AKS-74u a submachine gun.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter.
@sunrisee_xd@CallofDuty It’s either AI or some fictional version of a digital optic. Lens in the front, screen in the back. That’d at least explain why there’s no lens visible on the collimator shaped thing in the back.
