@johncelery@caroline_mpls A world that’s subsidized by venture capital, probably.
I don’t think the amount they charge is a problem, personally. I think it should be more, to reflect their costs. I just object to them obscuring the cost of delivery by hiding it in the cost of the items.
@PNWConservative “According to leaked tax returns highlighted in a ProPublica investigation, the 25 richest Americans paid $13.6 billion in taxes from 2014-2018—a “true” tax rate of just 3.4 percent on $401 billion of income.”

@SantoroSystems@ConnorStorer Yeah, plus, one could argue it’s a forcing function to ensure the new system is actually equal to or better than the old one. Because customers will notice if the performance gets worse.

@TimothyImholt The only reason I like dead tree is because I can resell it. Ebooks, you usually have to use the store’s app that’s missing important features, and if they ever decide they don’t like you, you’re SOL. With paper, you have rights. With ebooks, you have a license.
@Itsfoss 2) In a homelab setup where all your disks are probably the exact same age, the odds of a disk failing during the sudden 100% utilization of the restore process is nontrivial, and then you have to fall back to your offsite backup (if you have one) which may be a slow PITA.
