Look forward to hosting Saurabh Mukherjea at @icggoa for a discussion on his new book "Breakpoint: The Crisis of the Middle Class and the Future of Work".

I’ve figured out India’s number one problem: false pride.
When a society becomes more interested in defending its image than fixing its problems, progress stops. Pride without self-reflection is not strength-it’s denial.
6/6 If you are a young economist doing your PhD at Arizona State or British Columbia or Iowa State or the University of Virginia and would like to consider ghar wapasi, how would you read these numbers?
1/6 Brain gain in #economics departments in India's public universities is high in some but zero in others. A survey of economics departments at select public universities reveal some interesting facts.
What happened to all the austerity measures, @Dev_Fadnavis?
Your PR drama did not even last for a week. After 1 day on a scooty, you are back to using dozens of vehicles in your convoy. Nobody takes PM @narendramodi’s words seriously, not even BJP leaders.
Did Nehru choose 'socialism' in 1947 when other options were open?
No. Back then even the USA (still driven by the New Deal) was 'socialist'. So was the UK.
And the blueprint of 'Nehruvian Socialism' was drafted by India's biggest capitalists.
Google Bombay Club.
A Singapore newsman once told me, when their govt wants to do something unpopular, it first plants a story in the papers and then issues an official denial.
This is followed by opinion makers calling for that policy to be implemented.
The govt then 'reluctantly' relents.
Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai were aristocrats... they were among the richest indians at the time... They could afford to do what they did...
They didn't have to bother about where the next meal came from..

@badjourno The Governments have forgotten last mile connectivity. Maybe they assume that our houses are next to the metro station. It is very common in Bengaluru for the auto rickshaw drivers to demand ₹50 for a destination which is about 1 km from the metro.
@badjourno Connectivity- I need riksha to reach main road from my home. Cross the heavy traffic road. Another riksha/auto for 3kms. Walk a congested signal. Reach Bus stand for shuttle to Gurgaon. Journey 1.5hr in lite traffic. In Gurgaon after bus another Riksha to wherever you work.
