Today some guy from the 'Guitar Center' showed up at my front door and said, "I'm here to tune your guitar. I said, "I didn't call for a guitar tuner." He said, "I know, your neighbors did."
With heavy hearts, we honor the life of Donald M.
McPherson, the last surviving American fighter ace of WWII, who passed away at 103. A Nebraska native, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, earned his wings in 1944, and flew F6F Hellcats with VF-83 aboard the USS Essex. During the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, he shot down five enemy aircraft-earning the title of "ace"-including multiple victories in a single day, and received three Distinguished Flying Crosses. Nearly eight decades later, at 102, he climbed back into a restored Hellcat, reflecting on a life he humbly credited to faith and fortune. With his passing, a direct link to the courage and sacrifice of the WWIl air war is gone-but his legacy will endure. ๐
