@salingergregor@d_1awrence We waste £100b on debt repayments a year.
We waste £15b a year on Civil Service.
Centralised bulk-purchasing for NHS medical supplies would save us £10b a year.
We waste £2b a year on subsidising solar panels and EV cars.
Yet we can’t help employees out.
@DuxVul2 I have worked for a couple of large US firms before as a UK employee and I learned this.
US employees are replaceable at any second of the working day by their employer.
If you live in the US your extra money won’t go far, you will feel as broke.
US great holiday place.
@HormuzLetter You know what few months back someone was rambling onto me about portable nuclear reactors, he said there’s a firm working on the idea, but shares in them. I didn’t listen, can’t bring myself to look now lol
@dorfman_p This could be excellent news and about time. I thought decoupling gas and electricity prices would take years, as it’s connected to long term contracts? Personally I hope it can be done quickly.
Daily express UK is running a story saying “Met Office issues 21-hour power cut warning for 34 areas on Sunday”
Gemini says it’s affecting the upper north of Scotland. It’s weather related.
These kind of shock stories, released as such times are propaganda.
@clapperspaul My central heating is the same, combi boilers use electric. I’m lucky as I have an independent single gas fire in my lounge. A lot of homes have them still. It’s fun most gas fitters dislike them, but good as a back up.
Meet Kevin everyone.
He’s pushing electric heaters just as our government is insinuating we shouldn’t count on electricity and to expect regularly outages lasting on average up to three days.
Meanwhile my gas fire in my back room will keep my house super toasty.
Meet Steve everyone.
Steve thinks everyone buying a heat pump is all about saving money as quick as they can.
When in fact, our clients tell us they want a heating system that does not rely on gas, conflict, uncertainty and environmental damage and the savings are just a bonus.
Hey Steve, what's the payback on the fridge you purchased? Or the settee? Or the TV? Or the car? Or the dining room furniture?
Im here all day
Look at this idiot, crashes in on a reply, rambles on about using solar panels, which us taxpayers subsidise, tells me to place a pipe up my ass, then blocks me so I can’t reply.
Never spoke to him before.
@TheSolarShed@_VN5 My highly efficient combi boiler definitely does have a plug, making it useless as a heat pump during a power outage. But I said gas fire, which has no plug, and as such will work, allowing me to heat my home during any outage.
Going to buy a diesel generator for power outages.
@TheSolarShed Fuse I see where you are going with this.
My chosen LLM says “main gas supply are independent of the electrical grid, gas pressure in the street pipes remains active during local power outages.” Ignition is by a battery which is charged and built to last a few years.
