The Guardian’s Qatar player profiles left us… amused 🤣
Typos are understandable and even factual errors can happen when you’re on a tight deadline and not careful, but shouldn’t there be some fact checking?
At least ask some people who are actually in Qatar 🫣 A thread…. ⬇️
An incredible bit of sports journalism by The Guardian here. A short summary of the playing style of all 48 World Cup nations and a short profile of all 1248 World Cup players. Bookmark and refer to the resources when watching the obscure matches: https://t.co/tdLGq8en0o
@plasticpitch Agree with starting with Almoez, and maybe bringing on Muntari towards the end. I feel Loeptegui might have started with Almoez last night if he wasn’t suspended.
The lack of an alternative is a big issue, one that Qatar needs to look at seriously after the World Cup.
Qatar's terrible World Cup preparation concludes with a whimper.
Only one win in the last year tells its own story, Lopetegui has failed to progress this team at all during his tenure.
In all likelihood, Qatar look set for a repeat of their disasterous 2022 campaign.
Finally, this one is also minor, but still here’s something educational going forward:
‘Al-Mannai’ is a Qatari tribe name; the player’s surname is just Mannai, and he is of Tunisian heritage. This is a common mistake and I guess some auto-translations are to blame for it.
